Best Spring Projects for the DIY Homeowner

It’s that time again where people all over the country begin cleaning, organizing remodeling or renovating, as well as taking on a number of other general, household chores.  We’re talking about spring, and if you want to finally tackle all of those tasks around your house and property that you have been putting off since last year, now is the time.

When it comes to the annual springtime chore list, most of them break down into two categories; cleaning and home improvement. Although these are two completely different types of tasks, they still go hand and hand.

Having a weekly, or monthly cleaning service will free your time and allow you to work on home improvements instead of dusting and mopping. A quick online search for maid services Las Vegas, for example, will bring up companies in your area that can help with this.

Here are a few examples of some of the most common projects this time of year, whether it is a simple tidying up or a more involved, transformational one:

We will first look at the types of projects which take a little more time and effort but also offer incredible features and benefits.

Installing a Gazebo

The first on the list is also one of the most popular choices among homeowners and residents. Gazebos are highly versatile and come in countless styles and designs. From small, pop-up structures to larger, permanently installed buildings, these outdoor housings can provide shade, comfort, and a place to socialize or host gatherings. You can have them customized and built from the ground up or you can opt for a pre-fashioned kit that simply has to be assembled.

Installing a Deck or Patio

The next option is one that will also provide an area to sit and relax in with family or friends. However, it should be noted that these types of structures generally aren’t covered unless it is specified with the contractors beforehand. This is oftentimes custom work and requires a significant additional expense to the building of the deck or patio itself.

Setting up an Outdoor Cooking/Dining Area

This is a great choice for people who enjoy having meals outdoors. And it doesn’t have to be some kind of over-the-top improvement project, either. When people think about outdoor kitchens they envision a huge setup with stoves and sinks, refrigerators, and everything else. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply installing an outdoor grill and arranging a table and chair setting under the proper shade is all you need to enjoy a weekend afternoon barbeque or a romantic dinner under the stars.

Clean-Up and Organization

Before most of the projects in the previous section can be performed, these types of chores typically need to be done first. Prior to building or installing anything on or outside your home, you first need to make sure that the area is completely clean and ready to be worked in.

Yard/Outdoor Cleaning

This is a simple chore that usually takes more time than effort. Trimming shrubbery (or removing it if it’s dead), pulling weeds, cleaning debris, organizing firewood, and many other simple yard care tasks are usually much needed during this season.

While you’re cleaning the yard, don’t the little things like decor items, touch up paint on statues. Check outdoor lights. It’s also a good time to check connections, look for frayed wires, don’t forget to replace burnt  out bulbs. If the bulbs have built up dirt and debris this is the time to clean them, as it will prolong their life span. I suggest using an Outdoor Light Fixture Cleaning Solution.

Garage Organization

Is there anyone who actually doesn’t need to do this? When was the last time you gave your garage a thorough and complete cleaning? And that isn’t even mentioning organizing or reorganizing it. Since most people spend much more time out in their garage during the spring, summer, and even fall than they do in the winter, now is the time to get it taken care of.

I have a water feature on my bucket list. The last house had a lovely pond – quite a bit of upkeep work involved but having frogs spawning each year was such a delight! Better find a roof over my head first!

These are good projects! And so many people have filled up their garage, no room for cars. Around here, cars are getting stolen left and right, sometimes even out of the garage, so important once you clean the garage out, lock the garage door after putting your car(s) in there, and do not keep fobs, or anything else in a manner they can be hacked.

I have plenty to do, now that I finally have a stud finder, I want to put my pretty brass rods back up, and then hang my drapes. Also, my pictures are still sitting on the floor. Good for a start! I have one room that I have the brass rods, but not installed and no drapes, so I’m looking online for ideas. I can’t believe how much work some of the draperies I’ve made, without a car, it is hard to get all the supplies or even fabric, I don’t like getting fabric online. So, not sure how to get it…

This has been the coldest winter in a very long time! I am so ready for Spring! I promise not to complain about how hot the summer months are in the midwest, where I live.

Your article is very informative. It’s a welcome change from other supposed informational content. Your points are unique and original in my opinion. I agree with many of your points.

I love gazebos. I also love ‘water features’ as they call them. When I was a kid, back in the 70’s, my Grandma had a big, pretty bird bath and I loved watching the birds show up for it. I’d like one of those little koi ponds.

I miss being a single family homeowner. When I downsized I opted for a condo and it has it’s benefits but … I miss being in control of matters.

I am incredibly ready for Spring this year! These are all good ideas. I need to plant some flowers and shrubs at our new place.
