November 2022 $50 Your Way Giveaway

Whoaaaaa do you realize that there are only 61 days left of 2022!?!? That can’t be right can it!?!  Yet Alexa tells me it’s true. That’s nuts! Time…. tooo fast!

My October just flew by! Mostly because of a family tragedy, Son-in-Law Dan lost his Dad. I flew to California so that Dan could go be with his parents in Tennessee. Dan did make it there in time and now is with his Mom to help her through these first weeks.

Although, it was a sad reason to be in California I get to be with Alice for Halloween, which does make me so happy.

I return home to California on the 6th of November. Just in time for our new doors to be installed. (And probably snow, it’s gonna be cold in our house!!)

Someone from the powerchair place is supposed to come tom orrow to see what they can do to make my new powerchair actually usable for me. I’m trying not to be hopeful. It pays to expect the worst, lol. I’ve become so cynical, I think.

  • Sarah L

Oops! Sat on the bed to do this last night & woke up 12 hours later! Ah well, must have needed it. Went to Longford town to collect paint etc. that I’d ordered in the sales. 10 litres at €20 down from €42 so bought 6 of them. Should be enough for 2/3 coats for walls & ceilings for the whole house. Taking it to the house later today with Ann (Irish, been here nearly 2 years) and Viktor after his English class.

    • Tamra Phelps

Look at you, making friends and all that!! I feel like a relieved mother, ha!! Seriously, I’m glad you seem to be really liking it there. And that is a great deal!

  • l p

yikes! only 33 days left until Christmas. have to take some time (over a cup of tea) to make definitive lists, checking them twice. thanks

  • Sarah L

Busy but fun day. Started with a swim with a friend. The water was COLDER than usual so we just kept moving and got out a bit early. Then went to a concert with Sage Singers who I sang with pre-pandemic. Excellent show.

  • Tamra Phelps

The wind has been crazy today. Howling. Of course, that makes it seem even colder (actually it wasn’t all that cold except for the wind.) I had some serious and depressing writing to do today about my whole long illness, etc., but I got it done, so at least that is done.

  • Shelly Peterson

So My arm has been in pain all weekend, well really since Thursday evening. They believe my fistula has clotted but I can’t get in until tomorrow to de-clot it.

  • gloria patterson

I guess I have just had a lazy Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of things I could do but just not in the mood to do anything.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Well deserved weekend off for Viktor, Kaha and me. The weather’s too bad to work outside and more insulation won’t arrive till Monday. Did my laundry, cleaned my room & fed the plants. Oh, and bought and ate a bar of chocolate 😉

  • Michele Soyer

Tree is up and looking very lovely – today it is pouring again so perfect time to put up the Christmas Village and set up the creche…

  • Tamra Phelps

There’s not much going on today around here. I definitely did NOT do the black Friday shopping thing, lol. I did look around online a little for deals but I don’t need anything that I saw…

  • Sarah L

Finally got a haircut today. Then went to see my friend in the hospital and she is doing much better and gets to go home today. Her kidneys are still bad but her medications got changed and she’s feeling much better.

  • heather

My day is going pretty good just staying home today and avoiding the crazy crowds of Black Friday. I will be checking out the online deals today.

  • Kate Sarsfield

The insulation’s down in 2 rooms, the last floor taken up, a blocked drain cleared & honeysuckle and clematis planted.

The daughter of one of the Ukrainians was due back in to Dublin Airport at 6pm but the flight was delayed so she missed the last bus to County Roscommon. Poor kid (17) was distraught and she has v.little English. She rang her Dad, he asked me for help and I found a taxi service that specialises in the airport/west of Ireland run. Expensive but she’s safe and sound.

  • gloria patterson

Had dinner at my sister in laws and brother. There were about 18 of us there, but they usually have people come later from her dinners they were at. My sister in law ended up with a 24 lb bird so I took a couple big pieces home with me. My mother got turkey and ham to take home. Feeling really lazy today got up got cleaned up walked in the living room and decided I needed more sleep. So I slept for about 3 hours. Ready to make a turkey sandwich now!!

  • l p

belated Thanksgiving greetings and wishes. woke up to no hot water. very grateful it didn’t happen yesterday. guess that shower will be postponed. thanks

  • gloria patterson

Hope ever one is not working to hard cooking that Thanksgiving meal!! I am taking my mother and we are going to my brother and sister in law for family dinner. So I am being lazy.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

  • Tamra Phelps

I may be working out a solution of some sort to make that powerchair usable. My brother insisted I contact the medical equipmemt place that supplied it & tell them the issues with it make it unusable for me. It occurred to me that the seat cusion was adding over 4 inches to the height of the chair–if I removed it, I can sit down in the chair. But the chair itself is hard metal. Anyway, I contacted the place and asked if they have much thinner cushions, lol. Maybe just 1/2″. My brother said, ‘if they don’t, we’ll do it ourselves.’ I may wind up having to improvise but at least it would make it usable for trips to the grocery, etc.

  • gloria patterson

Was out early at discount store and they anounced their registers were down could only take cash. Well I am one of those people that always has cash so I picked up a few things and left. Krogers was packed at 10 am on Wednesday. But got parked and picked up a few things and I was out of there.

  • heather

My day is going pretty good just got in the door from getting some last minute items from the grocery store. I needed more mayo for my deviled eggs and my spinach dip yum yum.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Did a couple of hours gardening today while the lads laid the damp-proof membrane in the 2 front rooms. I planted 100 snowdrops & another 50 daffodils, cleared paths etc. The insulation sheets arrived but it was so cold we decided to pack up & go ‘home’.

  • Michele Soyer

Well my pies are done and all the prep work for tomorrow is also done…Time to sit down with my cramberry martini and enjoy the rest of the day – my book and maybe a Hallmark or Lifetime movie!!!

  • l p

it’s the 23rd already… the 22nd went so quickly, hopefully this day will be the same, with lots getting done. family and friends arriving soon. thanks

  • Tamra Phelps

Yay, it seems like whatever had been going wrong for me loading the PB & Whine pages has cleared up. Maybe it ws just me?? I never have a clue.I’m a tech idiot, completely clueless.

  • Kate Sarsfield

English classes today for my Ukrainian friends so I collected 6 self-assembly shelving units and took them out to the house. Then a trip to a garden centre for a couple of shrubs, bird food & potting compost. Somehow all of that took 5 hours so I drove back to the Bed & Breakfast, stopping off to buy a hot water bottle.

  • gloria patterson

Waiting on niece and great niece to show up. Zay (6) is spending the day with me and her great grandmother. She is special to us and we have fun. She loves to craft painting etc. But she also loves to play games and build with block with her grandma. So long busy day planed

  • Michele Soyer

Thank goodness we went shopping yesterday – it was pouring but manageable. today is a yellow alert and the torrential downpours continue…getting ready slowly for baking tomorrow for Thanksgiving…

  • Tamra Phelps

OK, it’s a little after 9 and I was actually able to load the page, Connie, lol. Now I’m going to click post comment and see what happens. Fingers crossed!!

  • Sarah L

I was already sad about the mass shooting yesterday. Today my best friend’s son sent a text that his mom was back in the hospital and has terminal renal failure. This is the family I spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with for the last 10 years. My heart hurts for them and for me.

  • gloria patterson

It has been one of those days. Dead battery ….. (AAA I have been a member for over 40 years) replaced the battery so hopefully :_)

Spend 5 hrs with my mother (93) getting her Christmas stuff out……………… AND YELLING AT HER

Why would any woman in a one bedroom apartment need with 15 christmas placemats – 8 Christmas table clothes. Not to mention 5 pr christmas pj’s, christmas shirts & sweaters. Not to mention all of this other Christmas stuff. It was on top of a cabinet that I had use a broom to get the boxes to fall down and hit me.

GET RID OF SOME OF THIS STUFF!!!

Drinking Jack and Coke right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LONG DAY

  • heather

My day is going pretty good just got in the door from doing some early grocery shopping for the holiday and it is cray cray out there! I thought if I went on a Monday it would be quiet I was so wrong.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Another couple of hours at the house shifting stinky carpet & rubbishy furniture. We finished early to be kind to ourselves!

  • Sarah L

Woke to another mass shooting, this time just 50 miles south of me in Colorado Springs. TOO MANY DAMN GUNS and people spewing hate. So very sad.

  • gloria patterson

Don’t know if I am coming down with a cold or not. Turn the heat up and I get to hot turn it down and then I get cold again……………….. Next week heating up to the high 40’s

  • Michele Soyer

A lovely sunny day with a sky so blue! Decided to make a BBQ today so I really don’t have to do much cooking..Time for a second cup of coffee and pooch playtime….

  • Sarah L

Whew! The site is back for me. I’m addicted to entering and hearing about everyone’s day. Three days away.
Volunteered at the gardens for the Singing Bowls concert. Was very nice.

  • gloria patterson

A first for me in to many years to count! I slept till 8:30 am I am always wide awake around 6 am. I was shocked when I looked at the clock. it today it is high of 33 and I am NOT going any where. Next week temp is going back up on thanksgiving day high of 60 and NO RAIN.

  • Kate Sarsfield

We had our first frost last night – ugh! A robin redbreast found it’s way into my ‘new’ kitchen yesterday – it’s an omen of death in Ireland but is very lucky in Ukraine so I’m going with that.

  • heather

My day has been a busy one. I have been up cleaning and working in and outside the house and I am totally worn out – think I over did it.

  • gloria patterson

Its 27 with a high of 34 and it is spitting snow flakes. DO I WANT TO GO OUT??? I have a prescription I need to pick up……… but it could wait. Going to think about it 🙂

  • Michele Soyer

Another rainy day but with an added plus. wind. LOL….sitting here trying to figure out my Amazon order and the cats are saying forget Amazon play with us!

  • heather

My day is pretty nice and quiet today just getting stuff done around the house before the cold sets in tonight. It has been super cold here at night I mean burrrrrr.

  • gloria patterson

High of 32 today and we had a very light snow. Had to go out to pick up prescription. And stopped at a garge have a piece hanging down under my car. I hit something or something stupid anyway. So I told the guy this was hanging and didn’t know what I hit. He went out and looked got down on the cold concret and he was shorts and pushed and turned. AND IT WAS FIXED!! Said it was attached with plastic just got pushed up. Would not let me pay anything. So home and warm and had a nap 🙂

  • Kate Sarsfield

Inundated by really heavy fog all day so we took the day off. I ordered shelving units for the back room which will eventually serve as a walk-in wardrobe/linen store/laundry room.

  • l p

got an early start to the day (spam call), so was up earlier than planned. however, I’m getting lots done so today’s going well. thanks

  • Michele Soyer

I feel like all I talk about is the weather! More rain 90% chance here of another wave of torrential rain and drama – all the families living in low areas or by rivers are inundated already….

  • gloria patterson

Got dressed looked out it was raining hard and only 34 …. decided I didn’t want to go any where. Changed clothes to my sweat and heavy socks and have done nothing today.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Four solid hours of lugging rubbish, furniture, stinky carpets etc. to the skip while Viktor & Andrei put the rubble onto the foundations of 2 rooms and removed the old radiators. Oh, and I planted nearly 100 daffodil bulbs. A bit late but at least they’re in the ground.

  • Michele Soyer

This morning I will pack my 100th box! A packing milestone..lol…my daughter asked me how many more? Again I just laughed I have no idea but with a 20 foot container it really doesn’t matter – next week I plan on going to the bulk store and hardware so starting my list – paint and supplies…

  • Tamra Phelps

It’s been really cold here for several days, so I guess the cold has settled in. Anyway, I made chili. It seemed appropriate.

  • heather

My day is going crazy fast today hardly got anything done and it’s already afternoon. Sometimes I wonder where does the time go?

  • Michele Soyer

Well got all my pet supplies yesterday and today I should go out and weed (again) but really only want to sit and do my language studies!

  • Tamra Phelps

Well, the entry form is functional today, lol. Still a few little oddities…the comment section is still on top of the last comment.

  • l p

should be intersting… the day has gone well despite a few monkey wrenches thrown into the plan. hopefully things can be rectified tomorrow. thanks

  • Tamra Phelps

I have no idea if this will work because the section for the comment i literally on top of someone else’s comment, lol. And the entry form has not turned over for a new day for some reason since yesterday so I can’t enter today. But the red box across the top is gone, so that’s good.

  • gloria patterson

Since our elevator is still down……………… I have done nothing today. Need to laundry but not bad enough to walk down 6 flights with dirty clothes and back up. So read a little, sleep a little, play on the computer.

  • Michele Soyer

Sunday glorious Sunday – sitting here making a list for tomorrows run to the feed and grain – usual dog and cat food but trying to think of any garden supplies I will need for the rest of this year – trying to seriously cut back on lawn/garden uneccesary purchases,,,right now budget and saving is utmost..

  • heather

I haven’t been able to post for days? Cleared my cache and history etc… nothing worked but now that the BIG RED Banner is back I am able to post! My day is going great now just got home from shopping and now I am taking a break.

  • gloria patterson

Our elevators are still down so I’m staying home and warm on this rainy weekend. Got a new book so read awhile and nap awhile.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Laundry day & cleaned the bathroom here at the B&B. Bought light bulbs, some food, changed sheets, fed & watered house plants. Having a rest before pizza!

  • gloria patterson

Great niece (6) spend the day with me and her great grandmother. We painted and played with building blocks and different games.

We have been having problems with one of our elevators in the building. Part is due on monday. Well my niece buzzed to get in the bluilding waited. And she texted that the working elevator was down. And had to wait till some one came back downstairs from the 10th floor to unlock the fire escape door going up. Finally got up here 6 flights later and sat down to rest a minute. Then helped her grandmother up 2 flights of stairs carrying her walker. Then back down to 6 to get her daughter and walk down 6 more flights of steps. After being on her feet all day. I know I will not be going out all weekend now!!!

  • Kate Sarsfield

Got extra set of keys cut, just in case! Cleaned some more ‘keepers’ (decent bookshelves etc), ordered a ton of gravel for the new floors. It’ll arrive on Monday. Took great pleasure stripping the only bit of wallpaper in the house and cleaned the shower room.

I have to see my Doc in December for blood tests & check-up so I’ve booked an appt with my dentist as well and organised meeting up with some choir/musical society for lunch.

    I may sleep all weekend!

  • Michele Soyer

Another tropical wave is supposed to come today so trying to get outdoor things done early then studying for the balance of this Friday!

  • Sarah L

Good swim with friends. Then the library and then Smashburger because I had a coupon for half price on their new chicken wings. The manager said they weren’t able to do the coupon so instead she gave me the wings for free. I tried them and was glad I didn’t pay money for them. I forgot that I hate eating wings. The seasonings were good (garlic and rosemary) but now I know I won’t be ordering them.

  • Tamra Phelps

So, I went for that EMG (nerve conduction test) test. Basically, I was tasered and poked with needles for an hour, lol. They made it clear that they were seeing significant nerve damage (polyneuropathy) in my arms and legs and hands and feet–but they seemed to see signs of response that showed most were trying to regenerate or redirect the sensations. Anyway, it will be a bit before I get official results…but at least it’s not a hopeless case.

    • Heather

My day is going really well. I had a ton of running around to do today and everyone that I ran into was so nice – I love days like these. Costco was a mad house though I mean it was cray cray!!!!

  • Kate Sarsfield

Went out to the house again, this time with 3 Ukrainians. One is a registered builder but has no English. While my 2 guys removed more floorboards, he measured the rooms & calculated how much rubble, sand, concrete & cement I’ll need for the new floors. Tomorrow I’ll get quotes.

The chimney sweep & son arrived, cleaned the 4 chimneys and put new cowls on the roof for half the price it’d cost at the old place.

I also ordered a 20 cubic yard skip for all the rubbish etc. from the house. It’ll arrive next week. And I bought a new wheelbarrow!

  • gloria patterson

I know it has not even been a week but this time change is really beating me down. By 9pm I am pass ready for bed and then at 4:30 am I am wide awake. Then need naps during the day. Heck I just finished a 15 minute nap. Energy lever ——— ZERO

  • Michele Soyer

Shocked yesterday morning when before I called the surveyor he called me….An inspector has been scheduled to come and since I am no longer sub dividing in 3 the whole process should be shorter and easier…I am only cutting off the piece that I am gifting to my sister-in-law…my husband allowed his brother to build a house on our property 1/2 acre to be exact…my husband passed and so did his brother.. so…my sister-in-law lives there but legally she only owns the house not the land it sits on….so thru the process here of “gifting” she can own the land ad therefor she can get a deed if she chooses to by applying to legal affairs..Once I gift it to her she can do whatever she wants and I can sell the house and the rest of the land….this is something I was left with and am trying to handle correctly..honestly if my husband had consulted me before he made the offer I would have said if you aren’t going to sub divide and basically gine him the land do not do it..anyway I ranted enough!

  • Kate Sarsfield

Up at 4am, drove to Dublin for 7.45, drove to my sis for 11am, played with Lolly, the Springer spaniel, loaded some of my plants into the car, had breakfast and a nap, did some gardening, visited Mum & Dad’s grave, drove to Dublin for 7pm & got home at 9pm. I AM POOPED!

  • gloria patterson

Quiet day done a little of this and little of that. Just not in the mood. Drove my car around for a hour to keep it charged. Great niece (6) has no school friday so she is going to spend the day with me and her great grandmother. Our weather is up in the high 50’s this week next week we are in the 40’s

    • Kate Sarsfield

Get yourself a battery charger that you can plug in the day/night before to make sure it starts and always carry a set of ‘jump’ leads in case you’re away from home. Then all you should need is a run once a week or so. Least that’s what I do.

  • l p

the day is going well. got lots done earlier so now it’s time for a cup of tea and rest to get ready for the next round of chores. thanks

  • Michele Soyer

hoping that yesterdays lunar eclipse brings positive things for everyone! As for me waiting to call the land surveyor to see if sub-dividion has been aapproved…I really cannot take anymore delays…

  • gloria patterson

Have been car battery problems for over 6 months. Got the big $$$ part replaced and a new battery. 4 months late the car is dead. The AAA batery guy has agreeed to place this battery (they have been having problems with them) yesterday but I am going to see if running my car ever day for the next week will keep the battery charged. I am retired so I really don’t need or want to drive ever day…………………….

    • Kate Sarsfield

The two men, Viktor and Anatoly had an extended English class so it got too late to go to the house. Don’t mind really as I’ve to be up at 4 in the morning to give a lift to another Ukrainian, Michael, to Dublin tomorrow.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Went out to the house on my own today & got a lot of tidying up done. Taking the 2 lads with me for a couple of hours tomorrow.

  • heather

My day is off to a busy start. We are getting snow off and on all morning sure is pretty. I am busy doing laundry and other chores today.

  • gloria patterson

One of those days……… my car would not start last week… so I just decided to wait till monday. It has been hell with car off and on for 6 months. So I got lucky got the same guy from AAA that knows about all of it. Got my car started BUT did not have the battery I need on his truck for replacement. Drove around and around for about 2 hrs and 70 miles so hopefully its charged………

My brother is going to come over as soon as he feels better (something is going around here, not flu & not Covid) and see if he can help me figure out a way to make use of that powerchair, lol. He’s convinced I just need to figure it out…OK. But it weighs 405 lbs. I need to find out if the wheelchair lift on the FTSB bus will even lift that plus me, lol. Nobody told me it weighed that much.

Sun is shining for a change so off to bathe the pooch then pack more boxes – when I see them all lined up in the downstairs drawing room it makes me even more energized to move! Have to start putting them in a document to get ready when the time is here for customs clearance – done this before so I know the rules!

Everyone around here has some bug that’s going around. (It’s not Covid, not the flu.) So, I’m masking up and mostly staying home if I can–I don’t want it.

That’s the sitting room & kitchen stripped back. Wooden panelling, kitchen cupboards, floor boards and joy of joys, I found the key to the back door!!! Tomorrow, a local builder is coming to look at what it’ll take to replace the floors and how much. Resting now!

Went shopping yesterday – onthe way to the feed and grain and pharmacy the car broke down…right on the main street in the town..ok no worries our driver called a friend for a jump and away we go…I had a strange feeling so told him to go to the pharmacy first then to the feed store kept the car running jumped out got my tablets then on to the feed store – while we were driving into a parking spot the car just stopped! This is not the battery – I have been here before in my driving days – alternator or starter not the battery…called his friend back transferred all the boxes of groceries – all the dog and cat food and 3 crates of eggs…then the torrential tropical rain starts! LOL..get home unload and find out the current is gone.. trucks all over the road upgrading lines…well after putting everything away turned on the 12v radio, made a martini and relaxed…

Good swim with friends. Much colder today and the snow started a couple of hours ago but not sticking to pavement since it’s been so warm.

Took 2 men from the bed & breakfast to the house today. In one room the floor was so bad I was afraid to go in there on my own. They literally stripped the room of furniture, clothing, beds, carpet, floorboards etc. Everything down to the concrete foundations! We’re starting on another room tomorrow – phew!

It has been a busy day so far. I have been doing a lot of work outside today and boy is it chilly! I am making meatloaf for dinner tonight and can’t wait it’s been a long time since we’ve had it.

Went to be evaluated for physical therapy today–went okay. She wants the doctor to order a bone density scan of my knee before we start walking, though, so we can be sure it isn’t any threat for fracture imminently.

Gales blowing all day so took the day off to attend to long-put-off admin. Changes of address emails & phone calls, filing recent mail etc. Got a lot done & all ready for heading to the new house at Cloonfinnaun tomorrow.

Its weird I don’t plan on doing in cleaning/getting rid of stuff but I keep doing it. Opened drawer to get something thing out next thing I know I have pulled up a chair and a grabage bag. Could not believe how much stuff I trashed. Old stuff that I still had but should have got rid of before. Then in kitchen cleaned out the junk drawer……… a correct name.

Just one of those days I guess

Well here we are in November may everyone have a good month! As for me still awaiting approval for sub-division – my sister-in-law lives on a 1/2 acre of my land and with sub-divsion I can “gift” it to her then sell….

Yesterday was pretty good, nice weather, which is always welcome. We are finally getting a little bit of rain and we need it badly!

  • Tamra Phelps

Did some grocery shopping today–I wear out before I really get all I need to, lol. Tomorrow I’m headed to physical therapy–I asked my doctor to refer me again so I can improve my endurance, strength, etc., before I do have that knee surgery. I don’t want to be down longer than I have to. (The surgery isn’t scheduled yet or anything but I’m hoping I’ll finally get to the weight he wants me at soon.)

I keep checking the Idaho weather while I’m here in California. Since it will be snowing for the next 5 days I went and bought a new pair of UGGS. SOMEONE (Yes, me) only traveled with flip flops. I am not not trudging thru all that snow at the airport! NOPE!

It has been one crazy day here with the weather. It was supposed to rain but instead we got a MEGA snow storm! I was wonderful to get all that snow as we so need the water here.
