Teaching Your Child at Home
Raising kids is not the easiest thing to do. There are several things you need to make sure they learn, but there are also things you want to try to shield them from. While the school will teach them the basic facts and information in life, some things are better when you teach your child at home. Here are a few things you can have your children learn while not at school.
Manners
The art of being polite and having good manners is almost forgotten today. There are many parents who have not instilled these characteristics in their children in any way. This can cause issues almost everywhere, including the store, school, and even fun parties or events. If you teach them these qualities while they are young, they are more likely to remember and keep them when they are older.
Reading
Although reading is taught in schools, a love for reading not come from it. A classroom setting makes it harder to want to read as the books you are required to use may not interest your child. Award-winning author Daniel Handler writes books that are both humorous and interesting for children to read. Teach your children to love reading by getting them books they enjoy and want to read. If you are struggling to find one, try one by Daniel Handler.
Sports
Sports are a great thing for all children to get involved in. Not only they do get kids active and moving, but they also teach several quality traits. Kids can learn the art of working as a team and following instructions or game plans. Winning and losing is also experienced, showing kids that life doesn’t always happen the way they may want it to.
When your children grow up, you want them to be the best adults they can be. Teaching them things not found in a classroom is one of the best ways to ensure this will happen.

I believe learning starts at home and super early. This post was interesting to read and had some great points.

Learning starts at home. It is not the school’s nor the State’s responsibility to teach your children to be good human beings. Dad always used to wonder how come you need a licence to own a dog but anyone can have a child!

Reading at home is so important. I read with my son, it was a book he would have never read on his own, and he realized he loves a whole new genre of books!

Keeping kids active also wears them out! Bonus! We’ve found the Cosmic Kids yoga Youtube channel to be a real winner around here!

Sports are definitely a great way for kids to learn…if the adults involved are teaching the right lessons. You occasionally see coaches who yell and insult his charges, argue with refs until you think a blood vessel might pop, etc. That’s just not good. Honestly, it would make me want to pull a kid out of the sport.

This is true. As to manners, I think kids “learn” more from what they see their parent(s) do, do they give the finger and shout at someone who cuts them off in traffic, or do they see an elderly person, and allow them to cut in line to give them a break, which overrides what they are “taught.” I recall my older sister taking me to the library at a young age, and it started a life-long love of reading and being curious to learn more. Many kids don’t qualify for sports at school, but parents can make it a priority, and can help the parents too, to get moving! Hiking, nature walks, swimming, fun, fun, fun! Some of my best memories are when we’d go for walks with our dad and pick wild grapes, hickory nuts, and roast the nuts on the fire in the winter!

AMEN!!! I think parents are the ultimate teacher for manners. What a great memory for you with your Dad. My memories with my Dad are fishin’ and huntin’
