A to Z April Challenge Letter O
O is for Orchid!! I can grow orchids!! I know!! Me!! THE black thumb lady!! How? I have NO IDEA!!!
These 2 plants bloom for me several times a year with blooms that last for ever!!
Again…. why?? I forget to water them, they need to be re-potted…… yet, year after year……..
You enjoy these pictures I’m gonna go give them a little water while I’m thinking about it.
Anyone know what these ‘root’ like things that shoot up everywhere on this plant??
A to Z Challenge blog everyday except Sunday (per the rules) with my theme being what makes me happy, what inspires me and what makes me ME!!! So be prepared for more information about me than you ever wanted to know!!

I kept buying orchids from a guy at the farmer’s market in town. They were absolutely GORGEOUS. I’d bring them home so happy, only to have them die. I tried three or four times and each time I killed them. =(
I truly do NOT have a green thumb! I just gave up… Yours are BEAUTIFUL and you must be doing something so right that I never did!

I, too, grow orchids. Those ‘root-like’ things are just that – roots. When you re-pot, remove any old dying roots and make sure you bend the new ones down into the orchid mix.

Thank you Denise! They always are so green and grow upwards I was afraid they were more stems and I needed to encourage them! Thank you!

Don’t be so hard on yourself, Connie. You’re not the black thumb lady. I guess you are doing something right. Or maybe the orchids just like you very much.

I have a black thumb too. A cactus once died under my care. Imagine, a cactus. Which doesn’t even need water. Not sure how that happened.
Your orchids are lovely! My mom uaed to grow some too. Apparently green thumb isn’t in the genes.

I love orchids and they grow abundantly over here in the tropics. My mom grew the most beautiful orchids in our neck of the woods!
Connie Gruning
I’ll bet the orchids in the tropics are beautiful!

Wow, your orchids are gorgeous! Well done! 🙂

These photographs are beautiful! Unfortunately, I tend to kill plants, but maybe neglect is the secret when it comes to orchids. 🙂

I really wish I could grow orchids, they are so beautiful.

I’m afraid I’d kill orchids. My mom used to grow African violets, which are apparently difficult to keep domesticated, but she did a wonderful job. I didn’t inherit her green thumb. Visiting from the Challenge!
Connie Gruning
My Grandma grew the most beautiful African Violets too. Me… not so much!
Paula
I love orchids too. I have three in my window that I have had since 2004. They are beautiful this year also. I think the trick to orchids is to neglect them just a bit
Connie Gruning
Paula that has to be the secret! Mine do get neglected… regularly!
Amanda Trought

I end up killing plastic plants. I think I give them too much sun.

I got an orchid for Valentine’s in 2012. The blooms died and my husband told me to throw it out. But I still had pretty green leaves and kept it.
A month ago it started to bud and now I have beautiful orchids again.
Connie Gruning
Jai, the flowers last FOREVER!! You’ll be glad you didn’t throw it away.

It really must be your thing at Orchids. I think the environment might help too. I can’t grow them at all. I think it is way too cold here.
Connie Gruning
I really love my Orchids. They love me…. they must… ’cause they are ignored a LOT!!
Sandy
Beautiful. I do ok with outdoor plants, but am horrible at keeping an indoor plant alive. Nicely done. A-Z

They are very beautiful. Did you know that there’s a dark brown variety that smells strongly of chocolate? Delicious.

So pretty! I’ve never had an orchid, but I heard they were forgiving, I already killed a mum this spring so I am taking a break from plants for a bit o_O
