9 Strange But Remarkably True Facts About Australia
Ahh, the great Down Under land in the Southern Hemisphere, massive in scale and wonder. It’s also filled with so many unique and unusual things, believing they could possibly be true can often defy even the most logical minds. Hard as it may be to believe, all of these facts about Australia are actually true. Biggest Rock We’ve all seen the stunning photos of Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, which attracts thousands of adventurous tourists. But it’s not actually the biggest rock in the world. That honour goes to Mount Augustus, located roughly 1,000 kilometres north of Perth. They’re Called Pokies Americans call them slots and Brits mostly refer to them as fruit machines. But in the local vernacular they’re Australian online pokies in the digital age. Around this neck of the woods, they are the most popular gambling activity, and the name originates from poker machines, which first appeared on Aussie shores in the late 1800s. Did You Know There Are ONLY 9 Saturday’s Until CHRISTMAS?!?!?!
How is this possible?? NINE?? Now I truly feel a sense of panic! NINE Saturdays until Christmas? I’m not ready. I need to know WHERE is time GOING?!?!?! I know that I’m not the only MOM, Grandma, and wife who wants to spoil their family with amazing gifts. Doesn’t every gift giver, (be truthful here!) want to give a gift that makes the recipient smile wide? Make their little hearts beat double time? Ya know, where they look at you and say “Oh MOTHER, you amazing and generous creature”. (Now, go back and read that in your most syrupy sweet, unnatural voice. I’m looking for sarcasm here). With that said, if you are me and you send very weird gifts; that make my children say “Did you have a stroke? What is WRONG with you?!?!” (I do know that eventually, I will have to stop sending the weird gifts, because these are the people that will choose my nursing home). The whole point of all this Christmas gift-giving talk is to say that even though we want to spoil our families and continue to shower them with gifts, inflation is a nasty thing. Inflation AND retirement? Oh this means I…

You Can’t Live Forever?? Really???
Y’all remember being 16? First, ya get to drive!! I’m not sure if it’s just farm kids or if it’s true for city kids too; BUT, I tested my driving skills by FLYING down the dirt roads fast enough to make my little brother cry “I’m telling DAD!!” Ya know how to keep your brother from tattling? You GO FASTER until he swears he will never tell. He never did. Which is basically why I’m still alive today. Then Comes 21 Then 21 comes. Oh man! 21 you can go anywhere. Like the liquor store. NOT!! The day I turned 21 I walked into the liquor store strutin’ my stuff. I found the cheapest bottle of wine the shelves had to offer. (I’m 21 and poor! BUT, it was my right of passage) ONLY TO get to the register without my drivers’ license. WHAT!?!!?!??!?! Seems my Mom had taken my driver’s license out of my wallet so she could get my ‘dream’ watch out of layaway. It was to be my birthday present (again. 21 and poor) Ohhhhhhhhhh I can still hear my mom laughing and see her face. It was a mixture of I’m so SORRY and THIS is…
