Izzy The Very Bad Burglar Written By Amy Proud
As much as 5-year-old Alice loves her new book I think I love it more!
Izzy The Very Bad Burglar! By Amy Proud.
This is a story about Izzy a little girl; a little burglar. Not just a little burglar but one that comes from a long line of family burglars! Exceptional burglars at that! From Granny who was a very famous cat burglar to her baby cousin a notorious bank robber. Everyone in the family is a burglar! They are all very good at their jobs too! Izzy is expected to follow in the family business and she tries. She really does try, but each time she steals something she gets a bad feeling in her stomach. When she tries to explain this to her parents they ‘scowl and grind their teeth and tell her she must be a good burglar‘.
Izzy then tries different things to make that bad feeling in her stomach go away. Like doing something nice for the family that she burgled. All the way to cleaning their house! Or baking delicious goodies! AND more!! A burglar that does good deeds. Like cleaning?! And baking?! Eventually, everyone on the block wants Izzy to burgle their house! It’s cute, book with an awesome twist.
What an awesome way to teach right from wrong. A way to teach kids just because others are doing bad things, even family, doesn’t mean you have too. Teaching right from wrong. And a good way to talk to kids about making good decisions.
Izzy comes from a family of excellent burglars. But every time Izzy takes something that doesn’t belong to her, she gets a bad feeling in her stomach that won’t go away. She tries to tell her parents about the bad feeling, but whenever she mentions it, they tell her she needs to be a good burglar.
Izzy finds ways to make the funny feeling in her stomach subside. She and her friend, Frog, start by tidying up as they burgle. They make the beds, dust, wash the dishes, and do the laundry. When the people come home, some of their things will be gone . . . but at least they won’t have any chores to do.
But that isn’t quite enough. So Izzy also starts baking her special double chocolate brownies with gooey caramel chunks. When the people realize they’ve been burgled, at least they will have a nice, tidy house with no chores to do and something sweet to eat.
But that isn’t quite enough either. Will Izzy ever find a way to get rid of this funny feeling she gets every time she has to steal? Will she find a way to be a good burglar and a good person, too? Readers will fall in love with this little troublemaker with a very big heart.
The illustrations are absolutely adorable they are fun and entertaining!! We seem to find something new to giggle at with every single reading. The illustrations are just nothing short of PERFECT!!
WHINES
Again, I can’t imagine ever whining about a book that Alice and I can share. But, one that teaches an important lesson? One that makes her laugh while she is learning? One that makes her say “Read it again” over and over??? That is 100% a keeper!! Izzy The Very Bad Burglar is 100% a keeper!!

There are so many wonderful books for children these days. I still love the classics though! Black Beauty was a firm favourite!
