Let’s talk Recycling!!
You what I find surprising?? A huge state like California only recycled 29% of our plastic bottles?!?! WHAT?!? There are so many people in California, that we are practically stepping over each other, and we only recycled 29% of our water bottles?!??! That’s insane!
Arrowhead has an amazing video done with recycled materials that has me in awe!! You should watch it with your kids. It really is amazing.
That video inspired me to look for more idea’s for recycling water bottles. For instance when you host a backyard bbq (you know… after the snow finally melts!) Hang fresh flowers around the patio like this:
What about building a green house?!? Genius!!
What about an elephant?? This is the entrance of the Yerevan Zoo in Armenia – elephant made of recycled water bottles.
I am not creative enough to build an elephant!! I did make Alice a busy bottle. I started with a few mini items that will fit in the opening.
I even grabbed glitter for some extra color.
I thought of using packing peanuts… yea… pass on that one it crumbled as I pushed it through the opening.
Here is what’s in the bottle. Being ‘green’ I put this picture on my iPad for Alice’s cheat sheet. 
I glued the lid on. Alice is ready to seek!! (She hasn’t grasped the idea that it doesn’t open and all I get is a lot of tears and OPEN…. OPEN…. and staring at me like I’m the meanest NaNa in the world!)

We do recycle at home. We recycle our newspapers and other paper. Then sort out the plastic (jugs, bottles, cartons, packing, etc). And then obviously the soda cans. I think I’ve been recycling all my life, I think. We recycled in Illinois and now in North Carolina. We don’t do that many crafts these days, but I’ve been wondering what to do with all these empty glass jars that I have left. We reuse our plastic bags, plastic containers for leftovers, but we do get these jars. We can recycle them, but I know there’s got to be creative ways to use them as well. I think you can check out pinterest for LOTS of ideas on recycled art projects! I like the busy bottle made for Alice! I hope she has a fun time sorting through all the items you’ve put in for her.

That’s insane! I thought everywhere recycled. Where do you live? Maybe it’s just California that has recycle bins everywhere??

What a great post. I think the earlier we can teach our kids to be responsible citizens the better.
This year hubby and I are going to try the method of using layers of newspapers topped with straw to keep away the weeds in our vegetable garden. It’s a great way to 1. be chemical free and 2. recycle those old news papers back into the earth.
