12 Random Facts About Head Lice! #Mylee_clips

A few weeks ago; September 6th to be exact, I know the exact date because this was Granddaughter Emma’s 7th Birthday, Grandson Eli brought home Head lice. Which being the most wonderful and sweetest 5 year old on the planet, he immediately shared the louse with his sister and his Mother. The rest of the family treated the Borduin House like a quarantined island. Nope, been there done that with my kids I am NOT living through that again!! Well, that is if I can help it anyway. Thanks to Mylee’s ANTI LICE Hair Clips I won’t have to!!

So here are a few random facts about Head Lice.

  1. Head lice are teeny tiny wingless parasitic insects that live in human hair, they feed on small amounts of blood drawn from the scalp.
  2. Lice are very common among school children.
  3. The are extremely contagious, very annoying and harder than the dickens to get rid of!!
  4. Getting Head Lice doesn’t have any thing to do with the cleanliness of your child. Lice actually prefer clean hair!!
  5. Lice don’t spread disease, they aren’t dangerous but they can cause you to scratch your scalp (like I am RIGHT NOW just writing about the little buggers! Too much scratching can lead to sores which could lead to an infection.
  6. Treat EVERYONE in the household. EVERYONE or you will be fighting these guys for a LONG time! The spread very easily from person to person.
  7. Wash the bedding in HOT water! Same with towels and clothing that your child wore.
  8. Lice are very small about the size of a sesame seed. They resemble dandruff flakes. The Nits or eggs are tiny yellow, tan, or brown dots. The Lice usually attach the eggs next your nice warm scalp on a hair shaft. Perfect temperature for hatchin’ babies
  9. Nits look sort of like dandruff, except you can’t just brush or shake them off. Nasty little buggers have great grip!
  10. Eggs hatch between 1 and 2 weeks. Of course the eggs having that great grip stays firmly attached to the hair. This is when it’s easiest to spot them, as the hair is growing longer and the egg-shell is moving away from the scalp.
  11. Pets can’t catch head lice and pass them on to people or the other way around. Whew that’s good to know! Right??
  12. Check your children every single day for at least 3 weeks to be sure you haven’t missed any eggs.

Getting Rid of Lice!

Your most important tool is the fine tooth comb. I personally like a flea comb from the pet store. Under a dollar and very effective for dislodging eggs and lice! You will also get the same type of comb in the medicated shampoos. Be sure to check behind ears and at the nape of your neck. Check eye lashes and eye brows too, ALTHOUGH its rare that you will find lice there it’s still better to be safe than sorry.

There are tons of methods to get rid of lice.  If you need a recommendation contact your pediatrician.

Maintenance!

I am so thrilled to share with you my review of these adorable hair clips from Mylee. First, they are cute! Super cute!!!!

Anti Lice Hair Clips actually repel nits before they hatch!! WHY didn’t I have these in September??

The Mylee set includes 4 special hair clips and a bottle of lice deterring substance with Rosemary Hiprox with Vitamin E.

To use just add 2 drops to the small little hole in the underside of the Mylee Clip. There is a very light delicate scent that you have to get next to in order to smell. It isn’t over powering and it doesn’t cause any adverse reactions. The clips just provide protection! Cute protection against head lice.

The clip contains a designated area with synthetic felt cloth which has a capillary absorption capacity of two drops of oil. The oil oozes from high concentration to low concentration that is, only to the environment outside the hair clip. This is called a concentration gradient. By decreasing or increasing the surface area the felt cloth with the environment we can control how long it will take the drops to disperse.

Advantages of Mylee:
– Prevents Lice with 100% Natural Ingredients
– There is no direct contact with the skin

I remember a girl in school that had lice and had a heck of a time getting rid of it. Things have changed and its a lot easier now.

My youngest nephew brought them home last year (he was 5.) He had been sharing a helmet at t-ball practice, lol. Oh, boy! Well, both my nephews just got buzz cuts, but my niece had to endure the head washing/checking process!

Oh Gawd, this takes me back! I used to teach in a school for disadvantaged children and we constantly had to de-louse the children & ourselves – ugh! One family was notorious for head lice but considering the alcohol & drug habits of the parents and older children we were lucky just to get the younger ones at all, I suppose. Sad, but true.
