Bright giveaway poster announcing '$50 Your Way' with brand logos (PayPal, Venmo, Target, Starbucks, etc.), confetti and balloons, ends August 31, 2026.

$50 Your Way Giveaway August 2026

I am here with another $50 Your Way Giveaway. July was another busy month. The Husband had many, many, many doctor appointments. I think by now I’m basically a doctor. So, ya know, I’m available for cheap office visits and procedures. (Insert manacle and evil laugh here)

My outdoor garden is dead. I do not mean dying, I mean withered and dead and in dire need of being raked up. Indoor garden still thriving, thankfully.

Sir Walter hit 90 pounds on his 6-month birthday. YIKES! HE’s TALLER than The Husband when he is sitting on the floor.

Walter at 6 months. 90 pound great pyrenees/Bernese mountain dog mix. Giveaway post

I still haven’t made it back into my craft room, and my body is revolting. Between the twitch in my neck and the sudden numbness in my right eye, I think it’s safe to say I’m officially experiencing crafting withdrawals!

Seriously, this full-time caregiver thing is no joke. I am exhausted. (Look at that!!! I DID get my Whine in!!)

Now for the real reason you are here.

Yes, I do copy and paste from here on in. What can I say, I’m basically lazy.

the day is going well. it’s bread-baking day. the kids have requested cinnamon buns so I’ve been on the hunt for some new recipes. one new one a week.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Got plenty of things done today: re-potted some indoor plants and the strawberries & potted 18 decent strawberry ‘runners’. If they all take root, I’ll have enought strawbs next year to freeze some!

  • heather

I got some really good sleep last night and hit the floor running this morning. I have been cleaning and doing laundry and reorganizing.

  • Michele Soyer

Wishing everyone a new and improved Sept… Took a 4 mile walk this morning in the lovely weather and a 1 hour treadmill….getting ready to walk and climb in Itay and Greece this Easter…preparation is always the key…
Ready to relax, read and I do believe I deserve a single malt Kate!

    • KATE SARSFIELD

Bloody Hell! 10 mins on a treadmill would have me doubled over, dripping in sweat & fit for nothing! When I think of when I used to spend days walking mountains in my 30s/40s – injuries have put paid to all of that, I’m afraid.

  • Tamra Phelps

Almost September. Actually, I’m looking forwrd to Fall, hoping oit will be a real Fall, not just hot September and then right into Winter temps and snow, lol. My leg is very slowly getting slightly better. Maybe that’s all I can expect for now. still hurts but more tolerable.

    • KATE SARSFIELD

Good, glad the pain’s getting better. I don’t want the summer to end! Of course, we don’t have the temps you guys get and it rain’s all year round, but I do enjoy just chucking on a Tshirt & short leggings or a dress!

  • l p

the day is going well. out for walk this morning before doing some volunteering. friends just dropped off a bunch of craft supplies as they are moving and can’t take it with them. it’s like Christmas! enjoy your day. thanks

  • Michele Soyer

This week has just flown by…pretty soon I will start lunch then an afternoon of reading on the patio chilling a white merlot which I have come to like..Happy Sunday all

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Finished preparing the outside plants in pots for the autumn/winter and tucked them all down one side of the house out of the worst of the wind. Then the rain started so indoors – no internet & Vodafone’s helpline is Mon-Fri. Slept for 4 hours & did indoor chores. Internet came back 10pm-ish 🙂

  • heather

Just got home from a quick trip to the local library it sure was a busy place there today. I am just doing cleaning today and then later this evening I’m going to watch the new release movie called Disclosure Day looks spooky.

  • Michele Soyer

Had a great time last night with plenty of food and laughter..The weather is a bit drizzly but I will still BBQ on the patio, unless there is wind driven rain later the patio is pretty dry…everyone enjoy Saturday!

  • Tamra Phelps

I’m going to start physical therapy on Sept. 8th. That’s the first date they have open…so, hopefully I can rebuild the strength in my right leg and just make my overall stamina better. I feel so worn down by this last bout of pain that I need some rebuilding, lol.

  • l p

the day is going well. finished some laundry. going out for a walk and get a few groceries. then need to attack my crafting area – it’s such a mess. I’m sure it will keep me busy for the entire week-end. enjoy your day/week-end. thanks

  • Michele Soyer

Oh Kate and Tamra I am so grateful!! Must be back lol invited to a get together tonight and bringing peach goodies – still in a peach mode… peaches and cream layer cake, spinach peach caprese sald and a pitcher of peach martinis..all the peaches are now done! Happy Friday all..

  • heather

Just finished making hummingbird food and filling up their feeders hope the woodpeckers didn’t see me doing it. This week has just gone by way too fast.

  • Shannon Mitchell

Went to Walgreens and Walmart neighborhood grocery store today, I’m home now relaxing. I can’t wait for the weather to cool off.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Spent the day pottering in the garden, in between the showers. The painter man helped me find a retired roofing contractor whose going to replace a couple of damaged tiles.

  • Tamra Phelps

Leg pain has eased up to a tolerable level, thanks to steroids, lol. Of course steroids bring their own issues, but they are short term, so I can deal with that. Doctor’s appointment tomorrow. I expect to be referred to physical therapy. I really need to build the strength in my leg.

    • KATE SARSFIELD

I hope you keep a record of all the things going on with your body. Every twinge & ache, every time you’re nauseous and all the latest 911 episodes. Keep them busy, get satisfaction.

  • Michele Soyer

Well today it is 9 years since my husband passed…I look at my life at how much it has changed in these years…sold the property and moved back to the states, volunteer and have made friends…no longer have the responsibility of land and sheep and goats, chickens and turkeys to take care of… vacationed back to the Jersey shore and looking forward to Easter in Rome…wow…my life has really changed..sorry my husband could not share this with me….

    • Tamra Phelps

It’s nice to see you enjoying life, Michele. I know how you stressed when you were trying to sell the property, so it’s great to see you getting to live the life you want. And I’m jealous of the idea of Rome!!

  • heather

Just got in the door from running errands. I picked up some garlic stuffed olives I have been craving them. Have a nice day out there.

Not going back to volunteering until after Labor Day…this evening out for a drink with my friend…

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Just read Heather’s comment. Can’t believe it. Dolly’s gone. The world will be an emptier place without her. May she rest in peace.

  • heather

I just got in the door from a trip to the local library and learned that Dolly Parton has passed away. I have been a fan of hers all my life she was a true legend with a kind heart. God Bless.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

My decorator has finished the outside of the house and it looks really lovely! He was telling me about house prices in the area & reckons mine has tripled in value since I bought it! Ireland has an awful housing shortage so the demand outstrips the supply.

  • Shannon Mitchell

The day is going well, got some housework done. Plan on going to dinner later, it’s our anniversary. Planning a small getaway for our anniversary but we’re waiting until October when it cools off, I can’t really enjoy myself in this extreme heat.

  • l p

the day is going well. I’m getting lots of little things done between baking breads etc. I can hardly believe we’re nearly at the end of August. enjoy your day. thanks

hope all here are fine and dandy…

  • l p

the day is going well. out for a long walk this morning. then visited with friends over coffee and a few goodies. now I’m doing the last of the kitchen cleaning after yesterday’s cooking marathon, the freezer certainly is happy. enjoy your day. thanks

  • heather

I just got in the door from doing a little shopping and a lot o driving still can’t believe that all took me three hours??? Have a nice Sunday out there.

  • Denise C

I actually started crying a little bit thinking about how I’ll be going into work tomorrow. Enough of that. I’m going to finish visiting all my favorites sites, then go outside and enjoy this beautiful (yet hot!) day. Happy Sunday everyone 🙂

  • Tamra Phelps

Well, my leg bled more last night and I woke up in a puddle of blood. My poor brother had to come by and change the sheets for me because I’m in no condition to do it (that would have been a real shi* show, lol!!) What a week this has been…

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Another day of painting the house. This guy is 42, married with children, just bought his first house & works all day at decorating. He’s home by 7pm, has something to eat, goes to bed then starts his second job at 2am, collecting the daily papers from the train station & delivering them to shops etc. till 7am. Then home to sleep till 9am. The only time he has off is Sunday but he still works the night shift seven nights a week. How he keeps going I don’t know!

  • heather

Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday out there. I have been cleaing the house all day and now it is break time for me for the rest of the day.

  • Denise C

I am SO glad today is Friday. This week took forever to finish. I definitely need to work on my retirement plans so it can happen sooner. My supervisor is leaving town tonight for a few weeks and has been dumping all their work on us. I am not looking forward to that.

And while I’m here – Tamra, get better!

  • Tamra Phelps

I thought things were looking a tiny bit better, the meds were helping make the pain in the leg tolerble. Then I accidently cut my leg. I was reaching for something with one of those reacher things for people who need a little help when we drop something, but it slipped off the item and flew back toward me and hit me leg sort of at the back of the calf. It bled like crazy! It wouldn’t stop and blood was all over the floor, so I couldn’t safely stand to pivot back to my wheelchair and clean everything up. I had to call 911. They had to stop the bleed and bandage it up. They were surprised, like I was, that the reacher could make such a deep cut but then I remembered that when I was at the ER Wednesday they gave me a shot of blood thinner, so maybe that played a role??? Anyway, it has been my week from hell, honestly. I just hope it gets better from here.

    • KATE SARSFIELD

What the heck? Jesus Christ, Tamra, what next? How many times have I written that in the last few years? I swear, you’re the most unlucky person when it comes to your health. The blood thinner is to blame for all the bleeding. Dad cut his leg once in a fall & I’ve never seen so much blood in my life and because of his diabetes it took years to heal. At least you don’t have that – NO!!! I will not tempt fate! Please be careful and get well soon xxx

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Slept for 10 hrs last night & it was much needed. The nights are getting cooler which helps, although with a couple of cats on board you wouldn’t notice much. The painter arrived this morning & you would not believe the difference! I can’t believe it’s the same old house! I’ve chosen a pale but warm grey, with black trim. It’s so much better than the aged deep cream & green that’s been there for years.

  • l p

the day is going well. it’s a lovely day here. I’ve been out for a walk and am now dealing with paperwork and emails – always takes a long time. enjoy your day and week-end. thanks

  • heather

I got some seriously good sleep last night and even slept in this morning. I sure needed some serious rest it’s been a bad week here.

  • Tamra Phelps

Well, I had to go to the ER Tuesday night, spent most of Wednesday at the hospital but they did finally discharge me Wednesday. After xrays/scans they diceded it is a pinched nerve and it is affecting my already damaged right leg very badly. So, they sent me home with steroids and muscle relaxants. The pain is still there but more bearable. Hopefully it passes soon. If you’ve ever had a pinched nerve you know they are horrible at first but usually pass or at least calm down.

  • l p

the day is going well. earlier today, the computer was sooooo cranky. it’s better now but not quite back to top action. such is life, I guess. enjoy your day. thanks

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Not a single moment of sleep last night at all. I think maybe I ate too late. Then the doorbell rang at 9am : decorator came to power hose the roof, walls, paths etc, ready for painting. He’ll be here at 10am tomorrow so the rain better stay away!

  • heather

They are doing powerline upgrades in our area and they keep turning the power off at random times. I came home today from the grocery store and the power was out and I don’t know for how long I LOST my mind!

  • Shannon Mitchell

Stormed all night and raining today, we’ve lost power three times already. I hope it clears out soon, on a positive note, it’s cooler today, only 74 degrees.

  • heather

I got up super early this morning and am getting housework done before it gets too hot out. Just vacuumed the house and am almost done with laundry.

  • l p

the day is going well. woke up way too early but couldn’t get back to sleep. so I’m cleaning out cupboards. lots to be donated. it’s going to keep me out of mischief all day as one thing leads to another. should have been done a long time ago for one particular room but it’s being done now. meeting friends for dinner so I’m making that my ‘reward’. enjoy your day. thanks

  • Tamra Phelps

Bad couple of days: My right leg, the bad one, is in a bad way. A lot of pain in the upper leg, swellinng probably from lymphedema, and the leg already has nerve damage and sepsis damage that has left it weak. The knee doesn’t connect to the femur correctly because sepsis got in there–so I’m used to having to lift the leg onto the bed at night, but lately it has gotten painful to do that. Last night it hurt so bad that I yelped and the leg fell, leaving me close to sliding off the bed and unable to right myself due to the pain. Fortunately, I had my phone. Yes, I had to call 911 to help me get into bed!! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Anyway, I will be sleeping in the recliner chair for a few days, I guess. I know the doctor is going to want scans of some sort. Then probably want to refer me to some specialist. So there’s that to dread…

  • l p

the day is going well. had a much-needed appointment this morning so I got up early to get the bread-baking underway with fingers crossed that the appointment would be on time. happily it was and they fixed the problem before I knew it. enjoy your day. thanks

  • heather

Just got in the door from doing some grocery shopping. I have to go to two different stores to get everything we need though and sometimes it kind of wears me out. Have a great Friday.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Went & got my hair cut this morning, came home, sat on the bed & slept for 4 hours! Finally found a painter to do the outside of the house, clean the roof & gutters etc. Pricey but I’ve seen him at work & he’s excellent so worth it!

  • l p

the day is going well. out early to shop for a home-bound neighbour who wanted to take advantage of a sale. happily, I was able to find everything on their list. a yearly indulgence – stopped by a very, very busy DQ to pick up a Blizzard for Children’s Hospital Blizzard Day. sure hope the sun comes out and stays out for the farmers whose fields are still too soggy to take machinery in. enjoy your day. thanks

  • Regina

My day is ok. I have an appointment at my surgeon’s office in early September, but am in a lot of pain. I call every day to see if there has been a cancelation. So far, no luck.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Another bad night’s sleep. Every time I stuck my feet out from under the covers to cool them down, they were pounced on by Oreo, next door’s cat who decided to move in last year. Today’s a day for admin. & paying bills 🙁

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Last time we had a major eclipse was back in 1999. I lived near a beach so headed there with Tizzie the black lab, a book, some water & a blanket. It was amazing! This time round, bleh! Maybe I’m getting too old to be impressed!

  • heather

I don’t remember getting a paycheck from Amazon within the past two weeks! Just drove 30 miles at $5.00 a gallon to pick up my package! Yesterday they delivered a package to the house so I don’t know why I had to ‘bird dog’ down this one I am getting reallllllllll tired of them.

  • Tamra Phelps

Yesterday was not good, lol. First rain that came down in sheets so heavy you could not see the street from the window–it was that heavy. Then lightning–it struck a street in town at one point and cracked the street. I had never seen lightning strike an actual street surface. Then tornado warnings started. Winds were crazy. trees uprooted and roofs blown off all over the county. The electricity here flickered but stayed on but the internet went out for most of the day–it finally came back on about 11:30 last night.

  • l p

the day is going well, although I’d rather be fishing too. made a more reasonable to-do list for the day. we shall see how far I get. enjoy your day. thanks

  • Shelly Peterson

Kate, a blizzard is a very thick sort of milkshake at Dairy Queen–so thick they turn it upside down to prove it won’t run out of the cup, lol. It comes in dozens of flavors. I had a Reese’s Cup blizzard with a blast of caramel, too.

  • Michele Soyer

  • heather

We are just now getting back in our home after being evacuated last Thursday due to another human caused forest fire in our area. We are still on a level one evacuation notice to be ready so we can’t even unpack yet. Our poor animals are so stressed out and we have had no sleep in days. The good news is that so far no homes have been lost but the wind is really kicking up out there right now.

  • Tamra Phelps

Michele, your day’s plans sound better than mine, lol. It’sw too hot and humid to leave the house here. All I did was watch TV, red aned eat a DQ blizzard, ha!

  • Michele Soyer

Stormy day today – dark and thundery. Between cat sitting duties, checking on baby girl every 2 hours hand feeding and medicine I will curl up and read all day…plenty of leftovers and a nice white merlot chilling! Come on Kate and Tamra join me!

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Settled in bed with the laptop to watch The Commitments, a film made in a poor neighbourhood of Dublin. The GREATEST music ever – Irish soul! Glen Hansard. one of the musicians/actors died in a motorbike accident a couple of days ago. Many memories. He was an Academy Award winner for one of his songs … much missed by all of Ireland RIP. Down-to-earth nice guy.

My word of the day is soap! I just completed an Amazon order and man… do we go through a lot of soap. I purchased laundry soap, bar soap, liquid hand soap, body wash soap, facial cleanser, shampoo and dish soap. We always seem to run out at the same time and it costs a small fortune $$$$$$$$$. I am soaped out for the day!

Last couple of days been busy running around with galpals…Mostly shopping for this and that but went to a lovely new cafe that opened with a bakery – had an enjoyable coffee and croissant – we only children can just spend a day in our own company..LOL
Today I have to do laundry, vacuum, dust and cook! Then a well deserved single malt Kate with my book…

5.28 in the morning – thank you cats and my arthitic thumb. As it’s cheap rate electricity, I’ve made a kind of noodle/veggie-type ‘yoke’ & shoved it in the oven. Now, there’s a word for you americans – YOKE – it simply means a kind of thing, you know, a kind of whatever you have left in the freezer, add some bottled sauce & hope for the best! Actually, YOKE, means so much more than than in Irish parlance – it usually means a thing, a tyoe of thing … oh, for Christ’s sake, just Google it!

Well I am happy to say my brothers home survived the fire. But so many others homes did not including my lanlords home. It is so sad, so many families have lost so much.

Rain, rain & yet more rain. Ah well, I suppose the farmers need it. Going to phone my niece to wish her Happy Birthday.

I just had a spooky drive on the way home from the store. I had a man behind me who honked at me for no reason and then followed me for seven miles. He made two turns on to the two different roads that I turned down. I ended up pulling into a different driveway until he was gone. I’m still a little shaken up over it. I really want to get dash cameras for the front and rear windows in my car. I am home now and locked and loaded!!!!!!!!!!!! I am always mindful of the vehicles behind me and I usually wear a ball cap to cover my hair. I HATE FREAKS!!!!!!! Be careful out there ladies and always watch your six.

    • KATE SARSFIELD

Bloody Hell, Heather, it would never occur to me to cover my hair/try to look UN-ME when driving. I don’t know what the crime level’s like where you are but if you have to change your whole persona? Something’s dreadfully wrong.

    • KATE SARSFIELD

When you mean ‘lock & loaded’ does that mean you actually have a gun? Jesus Christ, I’ve been scared shitless in my life before but we don’t have guns over here. If ever I was that scared I’d just call An Gardaí (the Police), which I have & have always felt safe by doing so. ps: what does ‘watch your six’ mean?

      • heather

Hi Kate, We live way out in the country and there is no police to call they would never get out here in time to help. We are on our own out here. Yes, we have guns you don’t want to break into this house! lol We have lived here for over 50 years but since the illegal marijuana grows have popped up everywhere in brings in a lot of criminals from other states and other countries to work on them. There have been several women who have gone missing so I usually wear a hat when driving alone to cover up my blonde hair and I am always hyper alert. ‘Watch your six’ is a military term that means watch your back out there. I so miss the old days when it was safe to go horseback riding and explore the mountains I did that when I was growing up but can’t do that anymore.

Oh, the caregiving bit is kicking my butt too, so I sympathize! (Sesame Street had a plotline the other day where Abby Cadabby was overwhelmed babysitting baby dragons, and when Elmo said “Abby is doing a great job taking care of everybody, but who takes care of Abby?” I got a little misty.) I’m off to run some errands on the bus, which is running late because of a festival in town. Walter is darling, even from the back!

Also, warmlines are great if you need to talk to someone spontaneously for support without need for/committing to something more intense. I don’t know what’s available in Idaho specifically, but NAMI Idaho’s contact page might have something for your county. The Friendship Line from the National Institute on Aging gives one-on-one support 24/7 (you don’t have to be a senior to use it) at 888-670-1360. You can also search warmline.org to find specific lines suited to your personal/local demographics (though you might want to double check to make sure a line’s listed hours are up to date). It’s helped me feel better, and might help when you’re overwhelmed.

Today wasn’t a good day. Here in Spokane, Wa we had several major fires. The wind didn’t help at all. Luckily I didnt have to evacuate, but my brother and sis in law did. They still don’t know if there home survived or not. Many of my family members, including me, went hours without electricity. 😭

  • Tamra Phelps

Okay, Connie, I’m with George on the shot in the eye thing, lol. I would not let you anywhere near my eyes with a needle! I would be more likely to let Walter do it, lolol!!! Joking! Seriously, take care of yourself too. I know it’s easy to say that and hard to find a way to do that–but I hope you try to find a time just to rest. Go sit with Francis once in a while.

the day is going well. out early to the farmers markets for fresh veggies and fruit. sorry to hear things aren’t exactly going your way, Connie. don’t forget to take care of Number ONE (that’s you). enjoy your week-end. thanks

  • heather

I take care of a loved one too and it is hard work. I need to take more time for myself that’s for sure. Hope you get back in your craft room soon. Walter is getting so big I love seeing pictures of him they always make me smile.

  • Polly Hall

When one spouse is the caregiver it is a 24-7 job, I just read an article that said the patient is most likely to out live the caregiver because they do not take care of them selves so it is very important that you take some time for your self care.

  • KATE SARSFIELD

Poor Connie, it’s so hard dealing with illness in the family. Poor George too, he knows how hard it is for you. But Walter? That’s a puppy? Are you sure?

All i’ve done today is meet up with another volunteer from the rescue centre & gave her the kitten & mommy cat food I bought during the week. Saves me a 2-hour round trip.

    • Connie: The Head Peanut

That is so true. George does feel so bad. I keep telling him it’s not his fault. Ya know he still won’t let me give him that shot in the eye?!?!?! Really?! I’ve watched the doctor a LOT!! (Insert evil grin!) Yeah this puppy is so dang big. I can’t even imagine him next summer.

  • Shelly Peterson

How is it already August. Time just flies by. Happy August. I hope you can find some time soon to do some crafting.
