The Best Travel Insurance Coverage Options for Families!!
Travel insurance can be a lifesaver. It’s a must for every family because it can keep your family safe and healthy, and it can save you tons of money if you do experience an emergency. The trick is finding the best travel insurance for your situation.
That can be easier said than done. There are so many travel insurance options! Although every family is different, there are a few travel insurance coverage options that are a good choice if you’re traveling with the whole crew.
Medical Insurance
It’s worth every family’s time to look into medical insurance. It can cover things like:
- Travel medical insurance: Short-term medical coverage from five days up to one year
- Major medical insurance: Long-term medical coverage for longer trips of six months or more
- Pre-existing conditions: Medical treatment options for pre-existing conditions
- Evacuation: Coverage for emergency medical or international security evacuations
It’s important to look into your travel insurance options and compare them to your current medical insurance. It may cover certain situations overseas, and not others. For example, if someone you’re traveling with has Original Medicare, an additional policy may be needed to cover them in the event of an accident.
Trip Cancellation Insurance
The health of your family is of the utmost importance, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other possibilities that could ruin your trip. If your trip is cancelled, you’ll likely be out the money, which means paying for a vacation that your family didn’t even take.
A travel insurance plan with a cancellation clause can help you get at least a portion of your money refunded. Depending on your policy, you could be covered if you have to cancel:
- For work
- Due to an illness or injury
- Due to a delay in visa or passport processing
- Because of weather-related issues
- Due to recent terrorism in the area
- Because a vendor goes out of business
Your insurance company will pay the difference between the refund you get from each vendor you purchased from and the amount that you actually paid for your trip.
Get Comprehensive Travel Insurance for the Most Bang for Your Buck
Nitpicking at all the individual details of an insurance policy can take up a lot of time, and it isn’t always the best way to go if you want to get a good deal. Instead, you should consider comprehensive travel insurance.
Comprehensive travel insurance can provide you with a wide range of benefits that includes more medical options and fewer financial burdens than lower-tier policies that are enhanced with add-on coverage. Just make sure you look into the details of the comprehensive policy to make sure you aren’t paying for coverage options that you don’t need.
Everybody’s travel insurance needs are different. Whether you end up choosing a comprehensive policy or you find that picking and choosing a custom policy is best for your family, you can feel confident that you and your insurance provider can handle anything your trip throws your way.

Travel/Medical insurance is definitely something to think about. You can always get hurt or sick when you are on vaca. Better to be safe than sorry!

This is good info. I was trying to get someone who has been ill but going on a cruise in Europe anyway to make sure they have all the insurance coverage they need. They didn’t want to bother!

One of the benefits of being in the European Union is that our medical insurance covers us anywhere in the zone. Dad ended up hospitalised once in France & Mum and my sister had to extend their holiday by 3 weeks to stay with him. Everything, including the gíte they were staying in & flights etc. were covered as well as spending money.

I never thought about travel medical insurance, but it’s certainly true that your medical insurance might not cover you if you’re out of the country.
