Strawbees Crazy Scientist Kit
I love things that spark imagination in kids! Strawbees Crazy Scientist Kit does just that for 4-year-old Alice!
What is Strawbees? Well, it’s a builders delight. 808 pieces. This kit is easy enough for kids as young as 4 to work with. The main building component is straws! As in bright blue straws, yup as in drinking straws. The blue straws are slightly smaller around than a regular drinking straw. The other pieces are cogs that you insert into the straw and connect other straws to build your creation.
Alice built a Magic Fairy Wand and then she built a robot (Actually a cube, but her imagination is so wonderful that she immediately put the cube on and started talking in her best robot voice.
We have been stuck inside this week because of the weather and colds that won’t go away. Pulling out the Strawbees Crazy Scientist Kit put an end to the boredom with no real instructions needed.
The box is the perfect size for storing everything all together on a shelf. The connectors; 808 to be exact, come in various sizes and shapes with 1, 2, 3 or 5 extending rays. These pieces can be stored in the canvas bag that is also included. The canvas bag has “Dream Big, Build Bigger!” printed on it.
The connectors attach to the straws by simply inserting them into the open ends. Add more connectors and more straws. Experiment and create!
I know that older kids could build a TON of different shapes and structures. You can add cardboard and rubber bands for a WHOLE other level of creativity. 4-year-old Alice was more into the basic building like magic wands and twirlies. (I have no idea what a twirlie is either!)
Included in the kit is a booklet with instructions to build a Cube, Claw, Pyramid, Arm, Catapult. Above that are the RULES of Strawbees and the first is HAVE FUN!! We love that!!
The Strawbees are sturdy. Alice is NOT the most gentle of creatures and we have only broken one of the straws. That would be The NaNa’s fault because she stepped on it.

Personally, I think this kit really does allow kids to use their imaginations!! Build! Create! More importantly HAVE FUN!!

I’m not related and I think Alice is the cutest kid in the world. Fun toy and sparks her imagination.

This would be a big hit with my nephews. (They love building anything, like Legos.) I think stepping on one of the straws might not hurt as much as stepping on their Legos, lol.

Veronica’s absolutely right – it’s so sad that children are losing the gift of creativity and their social skills because parents rely far too much on technology to amuse their offspring. Whatever happened to saying no?

Personally, I think anything that doesn’t have a screen is good for kids!
