Top experiences to be had in Australia
Australia may be a relatively young country but that hasn’t stopped it from being a place for all sorts of adventures and events to attend. Whether you are into sports, music, horse racing, fashion or motor racing, there is something for you. You might like to hike or ski, mountain bike, or a road trip; the possibilities are endless in Australia which is why it is such a popular holiday destination. Here are but a few things to check out while you travel to this great country.
Go on a tour
If you want to get the most out of your holiday and don’t mind travelling, you may want to go on a tour. Tours allow you to visit multiple places and experience various events while being shown around by a local tour guide. For example, this great ocean road grampians 2 day tour will take you around the Great Ocean Road and then take you north into the mountains. With stop-offs along the way for lunches and learning about the native wildlife and cultural history.
Festivals
The number of different kinds of festivals held in Australia throughout the year is truly astounding. Australia owes its diverse heritage and multicultural events to the fact that the borders were open from an early time and welcomed anyone from any country to come and holiday or live there. Therefore, the festivals are as diverse as you can imagine, which adds to the excitement of visiting the country.
Music festivals are rampant across the country, with the Tamworth Country Music Festival in northern New South Wales being one of the standouts.
If you are not into country music, you can check out the Sound On Music Festival in Perth in December which has some influential DJs banging out some great clubbing music. The choices are many and that is only when it comes to music. Food and wine festivals are also popular events across the country as are fashion festivals and grape harvests.
Attend a horse racing event
While the biggest horse racing event of the year is the Melbourne Cup, which is held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, some of the more popular events occur in Sydney. If you want to indulge in some Australian Derby bets, for example, be sure to attend The Championships which is located at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.
Thousands of people attend this event every year and it is a sensational season for fashion as well as gourmet food and beverages. Whether you are in Perth or Melbourne or Sydney, it is well worth checking out the races for a fun day on the field.
Get to the beach
Australia is known as an island continent, so the entire country is surrounded by ocean. This gives it some of the best beaches on the planet and something that cannot be missed out on if you take a trip to Australia. You have Bells Beach in Victoria, which is known for its surfing and was featured in the film Point Break starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
Bondi Beach is one of the most popular beaches and is located just outside of Sydney in New South Wales. The Gold Coast is another popular sport for surfing, swimming and sightseeing. It is located about 80 kilometers south of Brisbane and has been a hotspot for tourists for decades.
Get to know the cities
It doesn’t matter what city you are staying in, each place has its own unique history and culture. Melbourne, for example, has a European feel to it, while Brisbane has a more of a sunny, surfer vibe to it. If you find yourself in Darwin you will appreciate the tropical nature of the location. The cities are a big part of what makes Australia great.
Wherever you choose to go, Australia provides something that will fit your niche.

There’s a long history of young Irish people emigrating to Oz. Behind what the tourists encounter is a country deeply divided by bigotry, Conservative (with a capital C) politics, Climate Change denial and a huge financial gulf between the haves and have nots.
