November just FLEW by! Or was it just me? I was so busy in November. GESH! I have a couple of posts coming up in the next few days that will explain JUST how busy! I’m a tired girl.
Nothing real in the way of news from The Mountain. We had one day of snow that melted the very next day. We’ve been lucky. I have a feeling Mother Nature is saving up all her energy for a snow-mageddon. We are stocked up with food and plenty of wood, the propane tank is full. The Bull (Good ole John Deere) is ready and roaring to go. We are as ready as we can be.
If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you may have missed my PUMPKIN. After Halloween, I put the BIG pumpkin out for the deer. I drilled holes in the shape of a smile. WHO knew the buck was such a Mickey Mouse fan?!?
The next morning I went out to feed my deer, check on the pumpkin. IT WAS GONE!!! Who knew deer gangs were so sneaky?!?! I looked everywhere the pumpkin is GONE!! In my head (and Gloria’s and Tamra’s) we see a buck with a giant pumpkin on it’s antler just trotten’ along. It’s a funny thought.

New Year’s Eve and I finally got around to my Christmas Dinner! I cooked a happy free-range chicken, some pork sausagemeat, my ‘special’ stuffing & cranberry sauce (hint: orange zest!), potatoes, carrots, peas and enough Brussel sprouts to impress NASA! Thoroughly delish, even if I say so myself and the cats got to taste a little bit of chicken skin for the first time. That was so much fun to watch! Curling up now to watch The Bishop’s Wife (again)!

WOW that a great meal…………. Hope you had leftovers. Its funny things cats will love to eat of people food. When I had my cats my favorite meal was a big bowl of campbells vegetable beef soup. When I had, always had to open 2 cans because each cat got their own bowl. They would lick those bowls clean. So try so veggie on them they may like them……………… HAPPY NEW YEARS

I’m enjoying this day. I was given an amaryllis earlier. When I asked what color it was going to be, they said ‘mystery color’. So, now it’s starting to bloom. One stalk has four blossoms of blood red. The other stalk is remaining a mystery. Love Mother Nature. Good wishes to all for 2024.

Have decided I am going to start 2024 with a clean apartment. Today and tomorrow if needed I am doing all those things that I have put off……………. Only have a 1 bedroom apartment so not large at all.
So I am doing one room and taking a break my favorite thing to do a NAP or play on the computer. Then another room ……………….. I may surprise myself and get done today.

Slept in till 7 and got ready to go to krogers to pick up a few things I needed. Pulled out on the highway and it was not 4 minutes up the road …………. BANG!!! OMG I didn’t hit anything, then I realized that my right mirror was hanging down. Found a place to pull over to check the mirror. The mirror part was hanging down on a wire. The mirror looked cracked in places. I didn’t hit anything don’t what happened. Got the mirror part back in the frame. SO I don’t know what I am going to do the mirror is attached and I can see out of it…………. just has a black crack in several spots.

Day is going along good. I made an apple pan dowdy with Granny Smiths, and just did all the dishes. It rained the past two days, and I’m very relieved it wasn’t snow, it is the El Nino! Warmer and wetter.

Had a eye appointment at 8:30 this morning. The eye clinic is at the hospital and to get a close parking spot you have to be there early morning. My Dr is a early bird so I checked in at 7:30 just got sat down in the chair and he was calling for me. Checked my eye infection gone. I was back out to my car by 7:50.
Walmart just up the road so why not check for sale stuff. I did not even look at the sale stuff. Just picked up a few household items and I was out there. Got gas always like a full tank when snow is mentioned our 50’s weather is leaving us and next week it is in the 30’s and snow.

Day after Christmas, a difficult holiday since both parent’s are in nursing homes. My dad won’t get better, as he has alzheimers. Hoping physical therapy can help my mom at least get out of bed on her own in the next few months. Just that little bit would improve her quality of life.

Another day of tramping about in my wellies, ankle-deep in mud & rain. So far this year the centre has rehomed 30 dogs and 150 cats/kittens and we’re still crammed to the rafters. Day off tomorrow & the weather’s supposed to be fine so hoping for some time outside. Back at the centre on Wed., then hope to have my Christmas Dinner on Fri, Mum & Dad’s 67th Wedding Anniversary.

Busy yesterday cooking for today – feeling nostalgic and sad last night but today is Christmas and look at all the things i am grateful for!! So onward and upward into the New Year….today is mass on the television then a lovely Christmas breakfast with mimosas of course in honor of my mum and her sister my amazing Auntie Jo – they both loved champagne….after that phone calls and dreaming about Corfu for next year… Merry Christmas all!!!

We have Christmas Eve dinner at my brother’s and sister in laws. She is a wonderful cooke and I took cookies.
My nieces give mom & dad gifts, and the young great nieces & nephews get gifts. My 18 yr old nephew got called to come in to work at Denny’s. So he was not there but he called and talked to me and his great grandmother. My great niece who is 22 told her aunt she wanted food gift cards for Christmas. So niece told me and her mother. So she has LOTS of food gift cards to start the yr with.
Great niece Zadaya is 7 so she always gets gifts. I had packed a big plastic gift bag full of stuff from me and her great grandmother. Got a compact CD player (she is in to Taylor Swift) Taylor Swift pull over black sweat shirt. It was OK no real reaction. And a bunch of little of this and that. She did NOT get excited about any of it. (maybe later after she looks at it again) and then she got to the last thing in the bag…………… Rolled up Taylor Swifter canvas posters………………….. OMG She started screaming for mommy to look what she got. Later on they went out to check on the chickens and Zay had her sweatshirt on.
They dropped us off and headed home. No traffic might take them 15 minutes to get there. Have to carry ever thing up stairs. 25 minutes after they dropped us off got a text and picture …………… POSTERS WERE ON THE WALL!

It is the Eve-of-Christmas-Eve and all is well and all is bright as one of our most favorite Christmas carols, “Silent Night,” goes. It is a grey December day but in reflection it is one day in the brightest season of the year since we celebrate the birth of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords – The Christ.

Just getting going, and starting the day with good coffee is a nice way to start. I’ve started a new hobby, making soap. Right now I’ve only been trying melt & pour, but you can be very creative with it, and they don’t have any long cure time. So I’m hoping to make a batch today, for the holidays. There are some good FB groups that can glean good tips and be in awe at what some crafters make. Oh oh, Connie, beware, this can be addictive, if you start, you may need a new barn for more supplies!! So many cute molds, etc!

Very quiet day today. Did a lot of catching up on sleep, when I wasn’t letting the boys/next door’s preggers cat & the big ginger tom in/out/feeding etc. Have volunteered for extra shifts at the centre so will be busy Xmas Eve & Day. Heck, as long as I have a plate of brussel sprouts, I’m happy!

Today is Chrsitmas bread baking…love it! butter, raisins,. candied fruits all lined up.. spices, flour and sugars are ready to go as am I ! When i am finished warm up some leftovers and have a nice brandy!

Good news. After going through hell today getting a heart cath done, hich is a huge oain in the butt, the doctor casually said ‘looks good. I don’t see a thing.’ OKAY then. Good to hear. So why did I have to do it???? No blockages. I do have issues with that upper part beating too fast/lower part beating too slow, but I’ve had arrhythmia for decades. I’m guesing that is part of that. anyway, no blockages.

Happy Solstice! Tried to put up my usual arrangement of white lights in crystal bowls etc. on the window sill, but damn it they wouldn’t work. Don’t understand why as I’d packed them carefully in bubblewrap etc. So, anyway, settled for the only set of lights that worked, a colourful, interval-timed, length. It’s not really me, but we’ll see. The cats haven’t seen them yet, so they may not last long! Evenings are already stretching, which is marvellous! Used to be pitch dark by 4pm & it’s now almost 4.30pm and only just beginning to close in.

Doc appt at noon – the vertigo meds have done nothing so he’s referring me to the local Hospital for tests. It may be neurological or possibly a problem with my inner ears. You know that feeling when you try on someone else’s glasses, when you feel a bit wonky? Well, that’s what it ‘s like – like things are off balance. Other than that, a busy couple of hours at the centre then home before another storm hits.

I am just not feeling the Christmas spirit. With my health issues and all these heart tests/scans, I have decided to just give myself permission to ignore Christmas if I want to, lol. I have gifts for family, but no decorating because I don’t feel up to it. I made three batches of candy because I am the one who does that, but that is my contribution to any food, lol. Maybe after Thursday’s heart cath I will feel better. If so, I can always change my mind, right?

I have lost my ENERGY sure wish I could find it!!
Late sunday I noticed my left eye was a little red. Yesterday evening I noticed it looked bad. With the holidays coming I better go to the Dr. Up early and out of the building by 7 am…… WE had about a inch or so of snow!! The temp was NOT down so no ice on the road. Cheated took a front row parking spot right across from the doors. Talked my way in to see the eye dr……………….. YOUR going to have to wait…………….. that’s OK I have a book. I was in his office at 8:45 and I have a eye infection so prescription for drops and antibiotics. Picked up prescrioptions and home………..
So far I have taken 2 naps and ready for another one.

Took little Bryn to the vet for his follow-up leukaemia shot. Loki wouldn’t come in so left him behind. 50 minute drive only to find out they’re out of stock. Lots of pharmaceuticals have been in short supply lately but my journey wasn’t wasted. With the money I would have spent, I got my weekly groceries instead and the store was nice & quiet.

Did laundry last night the big good dryer is broke so have to use the smaller dryers. Ran the dryers for 15 minutes before the washer was done. These dryers just don’t dry well 30 minutes and some clothes will damp………… oh well

I ache! Apart from the old torn tendon that still hurts after 5 years, I woke up with a pain in the knee I dislocated. Must have slept funny, or something. Anyway, my day at the rescue centre went well but sooo busy. It’s like a conveyor belt of strays/unwanted animals. As soon as some are adopted, there’s just time to sanitise the enclosure and there’s another batch to look after, feed, clean and socialise.

Noticed I had a couple of apples and pears in the refreg that I better doing something with………….. SO cut them all up, in to the skillet, a little water and a little sugar……………………. cooked till soft So I now have fried apples and pears to snack on!

I have done nothing today!!!!
My niece came to the building to cut/style hair for 3 hrs she charges $20 cut & $5 for style. She had 6 cuts & styles and had a couple make apointment for in shop perms for next month. I sat and caught up on any missed gossip. They are along with 28 other people from their home area going on a 9 day cruise leaving thursday morning out of baltimore..
I am just on a LAZY kick don’t feel like doing anything. Heck for the last 2 days I have either ate a frozen dinner or a can of soup. NOT in the mood to cook

Today I had to shovel snow from the rental front steps, I can’t rent it out if they can’t get in. I do not like to shovel snow. I do not AT ALL. It better rent fast.

Had Dr apointment at 7:45 this morning. I guess I passed inspection next apointment 6 months. I stopped at this discount store open at 9am there were 3 cars in the parking lot. By 9:30 the place was packed I decided I was done shopping and checked out. Few more places and I was done time to go home

Off to walmart this morning to pick up some cards etc etc for mom. I was coming up a aisle and OMG I was hit with a major stink! Hold my nose and keep moving……….. ALL over that store there were areas of that MAJOR STINK!! I am moving and holding my hand to my nose and mouth. This woman stopped me and asked if I though there were dogs or something in there based on how it smelled. I asked a clerk if she knew the store stank!! And she told me there were 5 people on the hunt to find out where or who the stink was coming from. When I was leaving there were people with cans of air freshers all over the place.

At last, after a couple of weeks of sniffing & turning my nose up, I discovered a secret cache of cat poo 🙁 Behind boxes of tools & decorating stuff in what will be my kitchen. How they managed, apart from balancing on the boxes & aiming down the 2-inch gap between them & the wall, I’ve no idea. Connie, lend me one of your trail cams? Anyway, it took 3 hours of shifting stuff & scrubbing to clear the mouldy poo. Now the house & I stink of disinfectant.

Well, a little burst of good news at the sutrgeon’s today: mammogram shows the medicine is doing good, maybe reducing it somewhat, even. We have wiggle room to get the heart cath done and anything necessary after that. She even said a new study which took 2 years and was studying this med, recommends not doing surgery if at all possible. Monitoring it every 3 months and only doing surgery if it seems to start developing more. Apparently, they feel that it sometimes doesn’t develope beyond a certain point. It may never become invasive. So…fornow, we watch and wait and start treating the heart issues.

Bad news from the cardiac oncologist today. I have some heart issues that must be dealt with before he signs off on surgery for the breast cancer. Some might require a catheritization (did I spell that right? The thing they do to clear some calcification.) One side is weakened, there’s a perfusion (???), the bottom is not beating enough, the top is beating too hard. My head is spinning. I see the surgeon tomorrow and we’ll see what she says about all of this.

Last year after christmas mom got rid of her tree………….. it was falling apart. So I asked her if she wanted a little one this year…………………. yea – no – yea – no
So today i go to walmart and get a little tree that I though was plastic but was real………… It did not feel or smell like a real tree…………… check on line it was real but only $17.95
I got little decoration, lights etc etc for the litle tree…..
Then picked up misc grocerys she wanted………….. SHE hates going out in the cold it was 35 and time I got home it was spitting some snow.

Tough going at the animal rescue today. Wild wind & rain so got soaked going from isolation to treatment area, to caged areas all day long. Got home to the boyos who now have the squits. It’s everywhere 🙁 Oh, & there was a fox in the garden when I drove in!

I went to the doctor’s office today to have some blood drawn. I had to fast and not take my pills, etc. I got home and I was still wobbly. I think you know what happened next! That’s right! I fell down! It took my daughter and her son to pick me up. Needless to say, I am tired and sore!

I’m having a good day so far. Except that it’s STILL RAINING. It’s insane how much rain we’ve had here in Idaho this week. It is not supposed to stop until Thursday night. It’s a dang good thing we are on top of this mountain! GESH

Woke up about 3 to go to bathroom………………. AND COULD NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP! FINALLY gave up at 4 am got up, cleaned up. Done this and that all day. Its not cold but it is a CHILL cold.

Too cold to do anything. My Raynaud’s means my fingers go numb & hurt at the same time so I went back to bed! The freezing fog didn’t clear till the afternoon so let the car run for a bit, gathered firewood and prepped some meals while the cats were out. Just lit the fire so back into bed with soup & grilled cheese to warm up. The weather’s warming up from tomorrow but we’ll have wind & rain as well.

I had to look up Raynaud’s to see what it is. Does warm warter or something with heat help your hand? If heat help have you ever made or used a rice bag? These are great warmed in microwave for a couple minutes and the heat holds for a while

Yes, I have hand warmers & they do help a bit. Fingerless gloves are my best friend practically all year round in the Irish climate. Just ordered 6 more pairs off eBay!

Sunday morning & for the first time in 6 weeks I’m able to have breakfast in peace! The 2 lads are out having fun in the fog. I’m hunting for my biteguard. Cost me $500 a couple of years ago. I swear one of the kittens have either hidden it or eaten it. So everything is getting pulled out, furniture moved or I’ll end up with broken/cracked teeth.

My Saturday is going okay,didn’t sleep great there was thunder,lightning and rain happening in the middle of the night which spooked my little boy cat,Grayson but his sister cat,Daisydove was sleeping soundly under a blanket on the couch. We found our two cats in an underground den in our yard last year,my husband pulled out 5 kittens,I wanted all of them but we took 2 and fed them canned cat formula with a medicine dropper,they got their shots and had them spayed and neutered,they are now house cats,The kittens belonged to the neighbor across the street but the mama cat kept coming to our house for food and was left outside all the time.

Great niece’s grandma lives in my apartment building she is on 7 and I am on 6 and great grandmother is on 8. Zay came to spend the day with her grandma but they stopped to see me on the way out. Grandma and I were talking and zay was in the other room. Grandma finally should we check on her what is she doing…………. MY answer she know where EVER thing is in the room she set up all the stuff on the new craft cart. She was just doing craft stuff.
When she left she had pink crystals stuck on her face and bright red lipstick ((yes she has her own drawer with lots of eyeshadows, lipsticks makeup etc in it. ))
It was fun visit………………… what have I done today not much but the weather is nice in the 50’s

Yea we all do we are family with out being offical family. Great niece and a little cousin (2) when she spends they day her aunt (zay’s grandma) brings her down to me to visit. Heck she know where the drinks are when she wants one she gets it out. Brings it to me to open. She plays with Zay;s toys and when she done she tells me GO IN OTHER ROOM! The craft room she knows she has to take her top off to paint ( no paint on her shirt) pulls the chair over and holds her arms to be picked up. She will draw and paint and is trying to learn to use the scissors.

Going well. Just had my first session of chemo yesterday, and am actually feeling pretty good. Bit of nausea, but nowhere near as bad as I was led to believe it could be. So, prepare for the worst, but it doesn’t have to be the worst.

What a bloody day! Was due to take the BP monitor back first thing – car wouldn’t start. Nada. Popped on my new battery charger & rang the doc. Then little Bryn (the one with a damaged eye) escaped. 2 hours later he came back hungry – phew! Tried the car – still nothing. Then Bryn got out again. While I was out looking for him (in sub-zero temps) a tractor drove by & I flagged him down. He gave me a jump start (always have leads in the boot). Then the dilemma. I couldn’t open the house to let Bryn in even if he did come back ‘cos I was afraid to switch the engine off. Chose to go to the doc, and dashed home & there he was, sitting on the doorstep. Finally got the 2 of them in & went for a long drive, got groceries & got home 2 hours later. I’m craving tomato soup & chocolate!
