December Giveaway

$50 YOUR Way Giveaway December 2023

November just FLEW by! Or was it just me? I was so busy in November. GESH! I have a couple of posts coming up in the next few days that will explain JUST how busy! I’m a tired girl.

Nothing real in the way of news from The Mountain. We had one day of snow that melted the very next day. We’ve been lucky. I have a feeling Mother Nature is saving up all her energy for a snow-mageddon. We are stocked up with food and plenty of wood, the propane tank is full. The Bull (Good ole John Deere) is ready and roaring to go. We are as ready as we can be.

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you may have missed my PUMPKIN. After Halloween, I put the BIG pumpkin out for the deer. I drilled holes in the shape of a smile. WHO knew the buck was such a Mickey Mouse fan?!?

The next morning I went out to feed my deer, check on the pumpkin. IT WAS GONE!!! Who knew deer gangs were so sneaky?!?! I looked everywhere the pumpkin is GONE!! In my head (and Gloria’s and Tamra’s) we see a buck with a giant pumpkin on it’s antler just trotten’ along. It’s a funny thought.

If there is any chance there is a powerful being controlling things, I hope he/she/it heals some of my mom’s ailments so she can live some sort of semblance of a normal, quality life. With the other parent in severe Alzheimers (although still knowing who we are), I need the other parent to have some wins.

2023 has n ot been the best of years, medically anyway. But it wasn’t the worst, either, lol. Anyway, I’m hoping for better in 2024. Hope springs eternal, for real.

New Year’s Eve and I finally got around to my Christmas Dinner! I cooked a happy free-range chicken, some pork sausagemeat, my ‘special’ stuffing & cranberry sauce (hint: orange zest!), potatoes, carrots, peas and enough Brussel sprouts to impress NASA! Thoroughly delish, even if I say so myself and the cats got to taste a little bit of chicken skin for the first time. That was so much fun to watch! Curling up now to watch The Bishop’s Wife (again)!

Wishing Connie, George and all the Peanuts/Whiners out there a very Happy New Year xxx

WOW that a great meal…………. Hope you had leftovers. Its funny things cats will love to eat of people food. When I had my cats my favorite meal was a big bowl of campbells vegetable beef soup. When I had, always had to open 2 cans because each cat got their own bowl. They would lick those bowls clean. So try so veggie on them they may like them……………… HAPPY NEW YEARS

Ya know, I like Kate’s idea of doing Christmas dinner after the 25th. It would be much less stress and pressure. And in my case, it’s not like I have kids or family depending on me to cook, lol. I did my part by making the candy for the fam.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Busy kind of day between scrubbing the litter trays, going for a short walk, prepping my Christmas Dinner for tomorrow, and trying to get my printer to work. It’s still not working and I don’t know why, but I procrastinate because I hate to admit failure.

I’m enjoying this day. I was given an amaryllis earlier. When I asked what color it was going to be, they said ‘mystery color’. So, now it’s starting to bloom. One stalk has four blossoms of blood red. The other stalk is remaining a mystery. Love Mother Nature. Good wishes to all for 2024.

  • Michele Soyer

Had to get laundry done today – do not want to start the New year off with full laundry bins…you would think this is a house full of people for the amount of laundry we have! LOL…anyway 3 loads done and hung out to dry and no pressing! Ready to make breakfast, vacuum and enjoy my day making shopping ists for after the New Year…

  • Tamra Phelps

Hmm, I wonder what resolutions we will be making this New Year’s Eve?? I don’t know if I will or not. I mean, I need to lose weight andd improve my helth, but I don’t know if I’ll actually try making resolutions…I usually give those up on day one!

Have decided I am going to start 2024 with a clean apartment. Today and tomorrow if needed I am doing all those things that I have put off……………. Only have a 1 bedroom apartment so not large at all.

So I am doing one room and taking a break my favorite thing to do a NAP or play on the computer. Then another room ……………….. I may surprise myself and get done today.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Another wild day, but managed to get a short walk in (accompanied by the 2 boys). Got back into bed & slept for 3 hours! Another storm due tonight with plenty of rain (like Ireland needs more rain!).

  • heather

My day is going pretty good so far just listening to the news and doing some stuff online. Hope you enjoy the last Friday of 2023!

Well, we seem to be back to Winter here in KY. It’s below freezing. I’m watching old episodes of Bones and playing a few rounds of Candy Crush, so nothing important, lol.

  • Polly Hall

I had a rough night last night, I kept waking up because I couldn’t breath, ended up taking a 2 hour nap this afternoon and woke up feeling better

  • gloria patterson

Slept in till 7 and got ready to go to krogers to pick up a few things I needed. Pulled out on the highway and it was not 4 minutes up the road …………. BANG!!! OMG I didn’t hit anything, then I realized that my right mirror was hanging down. Found a place to pull over to check the mirror. The mirror part was hanging down on a wire. The mirror looked cracked in places. I didn’t hit anything don’t what happened. Got the mirror part back in the frame. SO I don’t know what I am going to do the mirror is attached and I can see out of it…………. just has a black crack in several spots.

Day is going along good. I made an apple pan dowdy with Granny Smiths, and just did all the dishes. It rained the past two days, and I’m very relieved it wasn’t snow, it is the El Nino! Warmer and wetter.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Busy morning trying to get the outdoors tidied up before yet another storm hits tonight. After that, I was seriously lazy, watching old movies, eating chocolate & napping.

  • Suzie B

I am exhausted from Christmas (in a good way!!) and have a crazy stretch of work; one day off in over 2 weeks.. I am not looking forward to this!

  • Polly Hall

I ordered our weekly groceries online again this week and my husband drives to pick them up. They make it so easy I’m going to have a hard time shopping for myself when I am better.

  • Terri Quick

I went out to Target again today. It’s still mostly out of stock but I did find the T-shirt I wanted in my size this time.

  • Tamra Phelps

I’m a little queasy today. My wrist still hurts and is bruised badly from where they attempted to use that artery for the heart cath. Strangely, no pain at all in the groin area where they did go in to the artery. Oh, well. I’m told it’ll pass in about a week.

  • Kate Sarsfield

Another day at the centre. And another storm – it is bucketing down & cold. All snug at home now with enough wood & food for a week! And I haven’t started any of my Christmas treats yet!

  • gloria patterson

Was up at 6 feeling good, dressed and did a couple of things. And then it hit me I NEED A NAP…… 2 HRS LATER WOKE UP only because the phone rang………….. SPAM CALL

Have not done much today its rainy and 55 and temps to go down next week

  • Michele Soyer

Enjoying this time off.. Did a quick vacuum and dusting and that is it.. Fed the cats and the pooch and now more coffee and music – lunch is leftovers and a movie..

  • Amber Lee Kolb

I have Arnold-Chiari Brain Malformation and we’ve been having a lot of rainy weather here in Michigan. We haven’t really had any snow yet!

  • gloria patterson

Had a eye appointment at 8:30 this morning. The eye clinic is at the hospital and to get a close parking spot you have to be there early morning. My Dr is a early bird so I checked in at 7:30 just got sat down in the chair and he was calling for me. Checked my eye infection gone. I was back out to my car by 7:50.

Walmart just up the road so why not check for sale stuff. I did not even look at the sale stuff. Just picked up a few household items and I was out there. Got gas always like a full tank when snow is mentioned our 50’s weather is leaving us and next week it is in the 30’s and snow.

Day after Christmas, a difficult holiday since both parent’s are in nursing homes. My dad won’t get better, as he has alzheimers. Hoping physical therapy can help my mom at least get out of bed on her own in the next few months. Just that little bit would improve her quality of life.

  • Kate Sarsfield

I got to sleep in till 7am!!! Joy of Joys!!! Thoroughly enjoying my day off. Did a tidy up, checked the outside pots, brought in wood for the fire so I’m snug for a very windy night to come.

  • l p

  • gloria patterson

Hope all had a Merry Christmas and that everbody had gone home or whatever. And you have your feet up just resting and recharging.

Since we celebrated yesterday this was just a day of rest and recharge for me.

Another day of tramping about in my wellies, ankle-deep in mud & rain. So far this year the centre has rehomed 30 dogs and 150 cats/kittens and we’re still crammed to the rafters. Day off tomorrow & the weather’s supposed to be fine so hoping for some time outside. Back at the centre on Wed., then hope to have my Christmas Dinner on Fri, Mum & Dad’s 67th Wedding Anniversary.
