4-year-old Alice might be going through an ‘I’m scared’ stage but apparently Zombies don’t count in the scary category.The girl is obsessed with Zombies. At the craft store she wants Zombie crafts. She walks around the house with her arms stretched ahead saying “Zombie” Now she has a favorite book about Zombies!
I Want to Eat Your Books
As much as Alice loves her books I knew this particular book would quickly be a favorite. I was right!
What happens when you race to class to find a Zombie next to you! A book eating zombie at that! What can you do? No teacher to be found? This zombie goes class to class, chomping and eating like a book-ivore!! Then the zombie wreaks havoc in the library until one of the other students offers a perfect book “The Brain Inside Out” flipping open a page the zombie learns that books are to be read and shared; BUT not eaten.
I find the sing-song writing to be catchy and fun to read. I also find that sing-song writing helps Alice read. For some reason she picks up words that have that wonderful cadence much faster. The illustrations are cute! There is nothing scary about the zombie or mummy (You’ll have to read the book to see where she comes in!) which makes this book a perfect Halloween book for kids. I had (what I thought was a brilliant idea) to do a craft with all three Grandkids to go with this book. I thought we would make three mummies!! My first of several mistakes was going to the dollar store for bath-tissue. Yup, 12 rolls for a dollar. Second major mistake? I mummied the squirmiest of the three kids FIRST?!!? WHY?! By the time I finished the oldest of the mummies, the first two were completely unwrapped and having a heck of a great time with the remnants. HUGE mess, but three very happy (and exhausted) kids!
He’s limping strangely down the hall with outstretched arms and a groaning drawl. A zombie! Could it really be? You race to class, but turn to see he’s sitting in the desk right next to you!
But odds are you’ll probably be okay, because this is no ordinary zombie. This zombie doesn’t want to eat your brains–he wants to eat your books! And he’s not a picky eater with a taste for all genres from mystery to history! But when the zombie catches a whiff of the school library, the children need to come up with a plan fast before all their books become history!
This monster book is silly and fun, with a strong message about kindness and friendship. The little zombie teaches kids not to jump to conclusions and to give everyone a chance. This is the perfect monster book for little ones who want a thrill but aren’t looking for anything too scary. I Want to Eat Your Books is a monstrously fun story not only for Halloween but all year round!

I Want to Eat Your Books is about a young zombie who craves books instead of brains until a fellow student shows him a new way to enjoy a book. She is currently writing a middle-grade fantasy novel about a girl from Connecticut, who gets kidnapped by trolls while on vacation in Sweden.
Tyler Parker is an illustrator/ukulele enthusiast currently residing in and 
around Seattle Washington. After spending the greater part of his developmental years in a small town in the Adirondacks he received his BFA in illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2007 before escaping to sail the usually figurative high seas. He completed his MA in Sequential Design and Illustration from the University of Brighton in 2009. His favorite food combination is pretzels and ginger ale.

I often use music & song as a means of teaching the children and adults in my classes (Intellectual Disability). Think how many songs you can remember every word to stretching back decades (in my case!). Even poems & nursery rhyms from your chihldhood are still there, tucked away, word for word.

I love the whole idea! My oldest nephew is 10 now, but as a toddler he loved ‘scaaa-wee’ (scary) stuff. He would want me to find scary stuff on TV. I would try kid stuff like Scooby Doo Mysteries& he would say; “That’s not scaring me!” He would have loved Zombies that eat books! I’ll try it on my youngest nephew!

I got a kick out of this book, and I’m sure kids would like it as it is something they could really imagine. I like the mummy idea, it would make a good Halloween costume cheap! but of course I wouldn’t wrap up their arms.
