2016 Kia Sedona SXL Testdrive

I pulled into the driveway after the first trip in this 2016 Kia Sedona SXL and told The Husband. I want THIS car!! This is not only an extremely comfortable car to drive but it has PERKS!!

This is not your MaMa’s minivan!! This is four wheels of comfort and luxury! From the unique grill to the auto-lift gate. This minivan is SWEET!!

Looks GREAT!

Total Comfort

The Sedona has everything you need for complete comfort while you are driving. From Nappa Leather seating. Leather seating that has duo memory! No more having to adjust the seat when The Husband drives. Heated AND cooled seating! On a hot day those air-cooled seats are heavenly!

Drivers Area

The driver’s area is awesome! Large central screen for navigation, entertainment selections and audio features.  I love, love, love the navigation. It even shows red when traffic is at a standstill ahead!

Huge read out for the speed. Even a read out for the wiper speed!

Headroom is awesome throughout the Sedona!!

Climate Control

No dual climate comfort but TRI ZONE comfort climate control!! Yup, the back-seat, the passenger seat…. everyone has their own climate control!  Speaking of backseat. There are 3 rows of seating. Including the bucket seats in the 2nd-row that not only recline but they also have extended FOOT RESTS!! These seats are so comfortable! Seats that are adjustable forward and back, but also able to slide the seats closer together or farther apart with one easy button! This is perfect for the times when the kids are doing the whole “HE TOUCHED ME!” arguing.  Added in the fact that you have front row seating for the DVD player. There are arm-rests for both bucket seats for the 2nd row. They are awesome seats!!

The Third Row

The third row will allow for 3 passengers. According to 6-year-old Eli, the seat is very comfortable. I sat back there and was quite comfortable. However, I am only 5’4″, I’m not sure that The Husband at 6′ would be that comfortable for a very long drive.

Storage

HOLY MOLY the Sedona has a ton of storage!! Starting with 2; yup two glove boxes. The lower one is cooled. There is a covered center console/armrest between the front seats. Inside the very deep console is an adjustable tray on top to stash your sunglasses or small items. There is also a double, covered cup holder in the center.

More cup holders on all the doors and on the floor in the second row seating.

The back of the SXL has a HUGE storage area!! I had The Husband and 4-year-old Alice get into the back! AND you can put down the 3rd row seating for even more flat storage. Truly love the Slide-N-Stow 2nd-row seats.

Surround VIEW!

The SXL also has Surround View that shows the overhead view of the vehicle! It’s so cool to watch!

Entertainment

The SXL has a dvd player that pulls up from the back of the front storage compartment. Since 4-year-old Alice and I are in the car every single day; I asked her opinion of the dvd player being there instead of from the roof. She loves this placement. As expected the screen quality is amazing. There is even a remote control!

Safety

More to love is the warning system, front and lane departure warnings. The side mirrors has icons that light up if there is a car in the other lane and you’ve turned on your turn signal.

My Favorite Perk

Of course I saved my favorite feature for last. DOUBLE side doors!!! Automatic side doors that seem to just glide open and closed. I can open and close from the front seat! I LOVE these doors!!

The Stats

The SXL has a rating of 19 MPG total;  17 MPG for city driving and 22 MPG on the highway. I drove the SXL for 5 days and ended out getting 18MPG.

The 2016 Kia Sedona SXL has a 3.3 liter DOHC GDI CVVT V6 Engine. 6-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic. The SXL drive is a little on the stiff side. But it has a lot of pick-up and go for a minivan!

On the center console is a push-button Drive Mode Selector. You can pick “Normal,” “Eco,” or “Comfort” settings. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference although, I’m sure that ‘car guys’ would be able to pick up the differences.

There are even two sun-roofs! I tell ya this van has perks!!

Warranty

Is there any other car manufacturer out there that offers such an amazing warranty?  10 Year/100,000 Mile Limited Powertrain Warranty. 5 Year or 60,000 Mile Limited Basic Warranty and 5 Year or 60,000 Mile Roadside Assistance! Very impressive.

WHINES

The 2016 Kia Sedona SXL is a true joy to drive.  I love all the perks the SXL has. I want this car!!
