A to Z April Challenge Letter F
Family Book. When our children were growing up I quickly realized that I couldn’t (and didn’t!) keep up with 3 baby books. In 1984 I picked up our very first “family book.” The first book was just a blank journal nothing fancy, a plain paper cover, I paid maybe $2.00 just in case it didn’t ‘take’. But, it did take and now our family has dozens and dozens of ‘family books’.
To this day there is a family book on my table. These books contain our family history.
When the kids lived at home at dinner I would ask “what do you want to remember today?” So, you’re wondering what’s in these books….. well…. EVERYTHING!! Some pages might be just day to day things, a test, a joke, a crush….. some are hysterical.
One of my very favorite example (ohhhh I’m so sorry Zachary!)
Zac said “I have something but, you won’t write this one”
Mom “Zac yes, I promise! Every word”
Zac “No you won’t”
Mom “Look, I’m writing”
F is for Family Book
A to Z Challenge: Blog everyday except Sunday (per the rules) with my theme being what makes me happy, what inspires me and what makes me ME!!! So be prepared for more information about me than you ever wanted to know!!

My grandparent kept an amazing family book – my grandad served in Burma, so it is an incredible read!

What a terrific idea. We lose so many precious moments over time, and this is the perfect way to keep them safe–although I’m sure Zachary sometimes wishes he’d never divulged that fart story!
Love your blog! I’m signing up to follow by email, since Google doesn’t allow WordPress to use the Google Friend Connect option any more. *shakes fist at Google*

A family book is a great idea! Oh, and oh my, but your home must be filled with hoots and hollers. Loved the Zach (poor Zach) example.

Having a family book is a great idea! I’m sure those are available in a interactive way now. It would be great to document those short moments that would make everyone chuckle out loud in the future.

Family book – great idea. It’s important to have all of that material on hand for embarrassing stories in front of future dates and such.

Ohhhh future spouses beware!! (HEY!! Maybe THIS is why Zac never brings home any girls??!!)

I love the idea of a family book! I am like you and never kept up with their baby books. I love Zac’s story! That is one that would go in the book for sure. Just so we could go back and laugh about it!

Such a great idea to keep one book. Zach’s story cracks me up! 😉

What a wonderful idea! My mom started baby books when we were little, but it didn’t “take”. Hope it takes for my own family once it gets started

Connie, what an utterly delightful post for “F”. I’m so happy you visited my blog and left such a delightful comment. But now that I’ve reciprocated and visited you, it comes as a wonderful surprise. You’re posts aren’t “writerly” — they’re genuine, fun, and very, very human. Just my cup of camomile! Thank you for brightening my day, you dear soul.

Love the idea! LOL at Zach’s story!

Connie,
What a great idea…I wish I had heard of it earlier to use with my kids. We try hard to remember the funny things they said through the years, but I’m sure we’ve missed so many. Thanks again for this great idea.

I love that idea! I want to do that someday, I think it would be wonderful to have for later!

OMG, hilarious. That would so go in my book, right after my then 2 year old saying in a restaurant, “What do I have to do to get some toast around here.”
Thanks for visiting me as it helped me to find you. I am a new follower.

I love the idea of a family book. Unfortunately mine are grown and gone from home and the grands that live with us are teens. But these might be the best times to record!!

I can still picture Zac standing over my shoulder and me trying to keep it together!!
Ohhhhhh Zac….. the stories I will have for your children!!

hahaha… that’s a great story. And I love your idea of a family book. I wish I’d have started earlier, but it’s better late than never. Maybe my blogs will also serve as a testament to family time. Not just as well as a family book.
Having fun touring everyone’s blogs during the A-Z challenge. I am going to follow you. I like your style!

Aw, I love the idea of a family book! In my case, it wouldn’t have worked quite as well, as I divorced. Though, since i do frequently blog about my son’s exploits, I guess I’ve found another way to document our little family of two’s history. 🙂

What a great idea. I often put these moments into facebook or twitter but I do wonder if they’d all be lost at some point when inevitably new technology takes over…perhaps an old-fashioned paper style book is the answer!

I love this kind of thing, I have a similar book I kept at school with friends. Such fun memories that could so easily have been forgotten otherwise!

This is a wonderful idea. I try to explain to people how important writing memories like this is!
I journal everyday, and I also do a photo a day project [p365]. I do this in a project life format, and it works out rather nicely. When I have a family of my own, I will continue these traditions. They will just be about more than just me and my writing, and what movies I watched. 🙂

The family books are a great idea. The little moments do matter.
Connie Gruning
These books do crack us up now!! Things we would have never remembered.
Cindy Dwyer
Memories like these are exactly why I started writing. I’m not much of a photographer, so at least their stories will survive into their adulthood!
