Why Self Care Is Important

Self Care is like a magical word isn’t it?? I do not believe my Grandma or Mom ever did anything related to self-care. My Moms skin care was a bar a soap and some vaseline on her face. Her make-up fit all in one little bag. (I did not inherit that gene! I am 1 zillion percent an impulse shopper. I’m a “GOT TO HAVE IT” shopper on social media. Because, I KNOW that new makeup will hide all my age spots, wrinkles, and fine lines because that 20-something girl with perfect skin told me so. She wouldn’t lie to me. I will look 20ish when I fork out much, SO much, money). WOW that just went “SQUIRREL didn’t it?” (If that doesn’t ring a bell go watch the animated movie UP. I can’t recommend it enough!)

My Mom didn’t do spa days or soak in a bubble bath. Her idea of self-care was hitting the casino and chain smoking for hours. (Minus the smoking I DID inherit the casino desire gene, lucky for my pocketbook they are sorta far away)

Our lives are busy. People are juggling so much now. Add kids to that mix and you’re REALLY running full throttle. It’s more important than ever to take time for ourselves. Our schedules are packed. Our days are long. From a busy parent to a caregiver it’s important to take time for YOU!

I know for me dealing with The Husband’s MS is stressful, hard work. I HAVE to be patient and calm. This isn’t his fault, and if I buckle we are screwed.

MS Symptoms Self care

My self-care is important because, I can’t snap at The Husband because he asks the same question 42 times in an afternoon. (That’s probably a bad example. I’m pretty sure that is all husbands. But, you get the idea. I HAVE GOT to be patient! Depression in MS patients is NO joke. I have to be flexible, being able to change plans at a moments notice. The list just goes on and on. (have you ever doubted the WHINE in PBnWhine??)

I know how important it is for me to maintain my physical, mental, and emotional health. I hit that treadmill and walk with weights. (Well, a much as my hands will allow. The Husband and I ARE a pair!) I listen to books, I zone out with Spider Solitaire or Vita Mahjong. I love a hot bubble bath and binge watch NetFlix shows. I plan getaways, like going on the 8th grade class trip with Granddaughter Alice. (I’m soooo excited) I incorporate Naked Collagen into my daily routine. Yes, another amazing product from the folks over at Naked. This company ROCKS!! Premium ingredients without additives, to support your health and fitness goals. From pre-workouts, to post workout products, weight products, protein powders, supplements, vitamins, gut health, fiber, even COOKIES! The list is loooonnnnggggg!!

So? Why do we need Collagen?

Collagen, is a protein found in our bodies that play a vital role in maintaining the health of our skin, joints, and bones. Ohhh please let it help my HANDS!! Although I have noticed my nails are SUPER strong since I’ve added collagen. Even my hair feels fuller.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, providing structure and support to various tissues. It is essential for maintaining the elasticity and strength of our skin, as well as promoting joint health and mobility. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to signs of aging such as wrinkles, joint pain, and decreased bone density.

How Can Collagen Enhance Self Care?

By incorporating collagen into my daily routine, I can support my body’s natural collagen production. Not only does this help my overall health and wellbeing, it can help improve my skin, skin elasticity, supports bone health, reduces joint pain, helps with fingernails, and hair TOO!!

Naked Collagen is tasteless. SERIOUSLY!! It has NO taste! Meaning I can add it to anything I want. Coffee?? Ice tea? Juice. OR straight in a glass ‘a whataaa. Dissolves fast too.

The Benefits of Collagen for Self Care

  • Improves skin health and elasticity
  • Supports joint health and mobility
  • Boosts bone density and strength
  • Promotes overall wellbeing and vitality

It just dawned on me!! My Mom has a new self-care routine (or maybe it’s just her new hobby) she haunts the blog!

Do you have a self-care routine? Or something that makes you happy and rejuvenates you?

Self care is so important and one that I really need to work on. I didn’t know anything about collagen before reading this post. I really need to start working on it.

I have a relative who was a live-in caregiver for someone with MS, and it was very consumptive. Also many trips to the hospital. It is hard to do self-care when there isn’t much relief, like a horse that actually gets the saddle off long enough to have more strength well up in you again. I was thinking how when younger how much more carefree I felt, in comparison to now, many more responsibilities that bring stress. My self care is mostly candles, essential oil, playing music via my earbuds and singing along when nobody’s looking. Last night I was onto “Don’t cha” by Pussycat dolls, and looking up on youtube as many other musicians / singers who sing it, also. Another one is “Fresh,” by Kool and the gang – that song is a stress buster and fun (to me, anyway)… only when nobody sees pretending to be on stage or hears me crooning … LOL.
