sunshine Sun Tips
Sun safety is a big deal. You probably hear all about how important it is to wear sunscreen every single year when spring arrives. As a matter of fact, you’re probably tired of hearing about sun tips!

Well, that’s because you’re hearing the same tips over and over again. No matter how much you think you know about staying safe when you’re having fun in the sun, there’s probably at least one thing that’s sabotaging your sun safety and you don’t even know it.

Here are a few indoor (yes, indoor) and outdoor tips to ensure your family has fun in the sun.

Cover Those Windows

Think you’re safe from the sun’s rays when you’re indoors? Think again!

Glass is only able to filter out UVB rays. That means UVA rays can very easily enter your home, and your car. If you spend a lot of time next to a window, or if you find yourself in the car, you should definitely apply some sunscreen.

Blocking some of the sunlight can be extremely helpful. Consider installing solar shades in your home. Not only will they keep your skin healthy, they’ll keep your furniture and carpets from fading too. Tinted windows can help keep you safe in the car.

Put Sunscreen Everywhere

You know you need to put sunscreen everywhere, but do you know exactly what that means? Chances are, there are areas of your body that aren’t getting your attention.

Often forgotten areas that need sunscreen include:

  • Your scalp, especially if you have a part in your hair, have thinning hair, or an exposed scalp
  • The tops of your ears
  • Your lips
  • Your eyelids
  • The tops of your hands, which means don’t wash them after you put on sunscreen!
  • The tops of your feet

Go Beyond Sunscreen

What if you’re heading outdoors but you don’t happen to have any sunscreen? Or maybe you want to double up on your protection? There are plenty of other ways you can protect yourself from the sun’s rays.

A good pair of sunglasses is a must, as is a wide brimmed hat. Covering your body with lightweight clothing can help too. A long-sleeved cotton shirt can go a long way toward protecting you from the sun without making you too hot.

Be Mindful of Your Surroundings

There are a lot of sun safety myths out there, and many of them have to do with how the sun’s rays behave.

Sunlight can bounce off water, sand, and concrete, which can cause you to burn faster. Up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate the clouds, so you can still get burned on a cloudy day. Be aware of your surroundings, and how UV rays behave, so you can better protect yourself.

Whether you’re spending time indoors or outdoors this summer, make sure your entire family is protected! With these tips you can do more than just slather on sunscreen to keep your skin safe from the sun.
