April 13th Photo-A-Day BROWN!!

My streak of Photo-A-Day still going strong! Since March 1st. I pick between several different Challenges that are posted on Pinterest. I pick and choose so suit my whim. HA! It pays to be the Mamma Peanut!

Sarah, you said you needed the recipe for my bread. My amazing, make the house smell divine! So easy NO knead bread. So I picked BROWN for my photo. Along with my bread recipe!!

How pretty is this bread!?!?  The taste and the smell is even better! Ohhh but so pretty!! Crunchy BROWN crust and tender inside. YUM!!

This recipe needs two very important things. INSTANT yeast. Double triple check that it says INSTANT I now have a large jar of regular yeast = I guess traditional bread making is in my future soon.  Second important item to have is heavy Dutch Oven. I grabbed mine at Walmart under $40 and it’s RED!!! It’s also already well loved!
Day one mix the following:
  • 3 cups All purpose flour
  • ½ tsp Instant yeast
  • 3 tsp garlic powder  NOT the salted kind.  This is just an addition I make because I love garlic bread. You can even add more if you are looking for stronger garlic flavor.
  •  1½ cups WARM Water
Mix all the dry items together. Stir in the water until everything is just barely mixed. it is going to look odd. You may have to add a little more water.  It’s going to look a little like this:

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set it aside for 18 hours. Yup, you read that right 18 HOURS! I make the bread in the morning, place the covered bowl in my oven (no heat!)  The next day or anywhere from 12 to 18 hours.

Turn the dough out on to a parchment paper leave the plastic wrap over it while you heat up your Dutch Oven.

Looks weird right??

After your pan has been in the oven 45 minutes, carefully pick up the parchment paper and drop the paper and dough in dutch oven. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.  Remove lid and bake an additional 8 to 10 minutes. My bread was in 10 minutes, we like ours a little darker and crustier!

This shot is when the lid comes off for the additional browning.

And after 10 minutes it’s beautiful and tasty!!!!!!!!

And now I’m starving……I think I need to warm up a slice.

Next week I’ll share my quick and easy Sour Dough Dutch Oven bread. Sooooooooo good!!

No kneading? Why haven’t I heard of this? I make great pastry etc. because of my cold hands but the feel of it always reminds me of touching a dead person when I was little (for a dare – my best friend’s father was an undertaker!).

I will not think of this when I bake……….I will not think of this when I bake……….I will not think of this when I bake……….I will not think of this when I bake……….I will not think of this when I bake……….I will not think of this when I bake……….
