Finally Sleeping ALL Night LONG!! Sweet Zzzs! $100 Off Coupon Code!!!

Sleeping on terrible mattress means tossing, turning with very little REM sleep. Which also means it’s time to shop for a new mattress.

I have to admit that mattress shopping has come so far since I last bought one.  You can research them online now, watch videos and order from the comfort of your pajamas and couch, which means that you get to avoid that awkward test phase cat and mouse game that occurs in furniture and mattress stores.  I recently read an article about selecting the right bed and the experts interviewed suggested that we try each mattress for a minimum of 20 minutes and test it on both sides and your back.

Lets take a moment to envision how this translates into real life. If you are fortunate enough to go furniture shopping sans kids then you have a higher likelihood of taking the necessary time to execute this mission, congratulations – now all you have to do is shut off your brain enough to ignore the lurking sales person standing just out of your sight line and the fact that you are not the only person that has laid on the mattress in the last 24 hours. If you can get past these reminders you are ahead of the curve. So Goldilocks, how many mattresses are you willing to lay on to get to that perfect fit? How many interjections are you willing to absorb from the pop-up sales person?

Let’s suppose you don’t have option of leaving the kids at home so you have just added a new layer of anxiety to this fun shopping event – just try to feign relaxation, try to close your eyes and relieve the tension that’s scrunching your shoulders up to your ears and suspend the creeping fear that your kid is jumping on adjacent mattresses their fingers in their noses up the second knuckle.  Feel like you can make a sound decision with all of these distracting roadblocks? No, no you do not and frankly you don’t have time for that.  Avoid the frayed nerves, save your sanity and embrace sleep like you did when you were in your 20’s – it’s time to embrace the future. Embrace online ordering and home delivery that include a 4 hour delivery window and strangers in your house.

Now for the mattress –  that’s the easy part. Most of us are looking for the same 2 things in a mattress:

1. Maximizing your investment it’s a significant investment and you’re going to spend 4-12 hours a day for the next 5 to 10 years so you have to make it count.

2.Comfort we want to sleep like teenagers, nearly lifeless in our dedication to rest and relaxation for as long as possible. We want to wake up and seize the day (or at the very least string two coherent sentences together)!!! Who wants to sleep like a baby? I already wake up 13 times a night damn it, I want SLEEP!

For the last couple of years I have been adding layers to my bed, first an egg crate foam layer to offset the discomfort of a too firm mattress left over from my husbands bachelor days (and to add a 3″ buffer between me and previous occupants) then a cooling gel foam pad because I am at the brink of menopause and can no longer handle a warm room. It’s a very Princess and the Pea situation and its stretching the limits of my fitted sheets pockets and my patience. I must have a smooth bed to sleep in, I don’t make my bed for it to look nice I make it to be smooth for when I get in at night. Don’t judge me!

The long and short of this ramble is that its time for a new mattress – like stat! I look like a hunchback rolling out of bed everyday. But where to begin? What kind should I choose? Is there comfort available that wont require I dig into my kids college fund? The answer is yes!

Sweet Zzz has the answer! If you have XM or Sirius radio you have heard their ads I’m sure. With 4 mattresses that they offer, I chose the Affluent Rest Mattress by Sweet Zzz. It’s a single mattress that has all of the layers I have added to my outdated spring mattress and it feels AMAZING.

So when it arrives its in a vacuum sealed wrapper inside a box. It’s heavy so plan for two people to drag it in the house but once you lay it down it’s like a fruit roll up, just unroll and open the bag. Its strong base fits on any solid surface so the only thing you have to swap out is the old mattress. You don’t have to buy anything else.  The mattress starts to expand the moment you break the vacuum seal so that by the time you have it situated where you want it the thing is fully expanded and ready for the sheets. It’s a 12″ thick memory foam mattress that’s like a firm cocoon, it’s designed with most sleepers in mind so it’s not too soft and not too firm. Right below the initial cotton layer is a 4″ thick cooling gel memory foam that wicks away heat and moisture (menopausal mammas know what I’m talking about),  below that is another layer of high density memory foam and then a final layer of ventilated base foam.

This isn’t an egg crate memory foam this is a solid mass of comfort – some of you will remember the first memory foam mattress commercials where the woman was bouncing on a bed and there was a glass of red wine just standing in the middle undisturbed – this mattress is like that in the way that it absorbs movement so that when you toss and turn your partner doesn’t suffer. The bed is firmer than I expected but not like an uncomfortable guest bed, it was cozy and I don’t think I moved once between falling asleep and waking up this morning. I slept a solid 8 hours and 32 minutes according to my Fitbit and that’s really something.

This is a screen shot sleeping on my new Affluent Rest Mattress:This is last week. MINUS my new mattress!!

My sleep record usually looks like a seismometers charting an earthquake, awake, asleep, awake asleep, REM, awake, deep sleep for a moment and the awake.  Last night – There was REM, light sleep and deep sleep with only 2 pink awake dots (just before bed and then when I woke up). If you are an insomniac you will grasp the significance of this momentous occasion and if you are the family member of an insomniac you will order this mattress for your loved one and help them stop being a hunched over grump-o-pottomus.

I have never in my life had trouble sleeping on any mattress.. probably could sleep on the floor but for both my husband and daughter a good mattress is a must….

I actually have to replace my mattress this year, so this provides some good tips! I might treat myself with one of those Chillows to accent it.

Wow, I would LOVE to see a read-out like that for my sleep! Fascinating to know what’s going on while I’m sleeping (or not), and it would be great to be able to understand what might help me sleep better!

Mine is worse than college days, I inherited it from my family so it was at least 20 years then, and I’ve been using it 40 years – I would like to get a new one, this sounds good. I’ve been bumping up my current one with sheepskin under the sheets a new mattress pad, etc., but when you need a new mattress, these things only delay the inevitable and a good night’s sleep!

A good mattress is a must for a good night’s sleep. I remember sleeping on a lumpy mattress a while back and it was the worst sleep ever, and I had back pain too.

I absolutely support the notion that you should buy the best mattress you can afford. A bad mattress & bad sleep will really disrupt your life. Trust me. I need a new mattress right now, lol.
