Morningside Recovery

When I was offered a chance to write about Morningside Recovery I knew I was the right person for the job because, I’ve always said that living in Las Vegas would be SOOOO very, very, VERY bad for me!! I know myself, and I know within a year I would be living out of a grocery cart, on the street!  I admit it, I love going to Las Vegas. It’s a rush, it’s fun, and yes, it is addicting!  Now a days though, I don’t even have to head off to Las Vegas to get my gambling fix, Southern California is equally as dangerous! The Indian Casinos are popping up all over the place. There are 6 within a 30-minute drive to me. Now don’t worry, I’m not taking cash out on a credit card or going into debt. I’m not going everyday (or every week for that matter!). But, BOY oh BOY do understand how easy it would be to become addicted. The lights, the machine noise and occasional winning. I could easily be addicted! It’s so comforting to know there is a place that knows how addicting it is and can offer real HELP!!

Did you know that problem gambling is a persistent maladaptive behavior that can be a primary or co-occurring illness. Since pathological gambling is recognized as an impulse control disorder similar to alcoholism or cocaine addiction, treatment is likewise similar. Treatment involves recognizing that gambling addiction is a chronic and progressive illness.
Morningside Recovery does amazing work.  They help patients discover unresolved emotional issues that lead to their addiction. Clients are offered a choice of outside group therapies that could include a 12-step group.
Morningside Recovery is located in Newport Beach, CA and excepts most insurances.
Those with a gambling addiction often have ADD/ADHD issues, so Morningside provides a clinical program that deals with the psychological issues that feed problem behaviors. Morningside recognizes that each addiction has its own unique factors. These factors are different for individuals who spend hours at table games in a casino as opposed to a person calling in bets on college football. As a result, a different set of clinical interventions and programs might be used to resolve each addiction. For example, recent research has linked norepinephrine to certain behavior patterns because it is secreted during stress, arousal, or thrill. It is believed that some individuals have a deficiency is this neurotransmitter and gamble to cause the brain to produce more of this feel-good chemical. This type of research continues to inform clinical pathways for the treatment team at Morningside.

Wow I didn’t know that people with ADD & ADHD were more likely to be addicted. Think I will encourage my son to never go there. Glad to know that there is help out there for it. I too could so easily get caught up into it. I won’t allow myself to even enter the door.
