Oh My Aching Feet! How to Stop Walking Like a Zombie by Noon

If you’ve ever taken off your shoes at the end of a long day and heard your feet groan (YES, MY feet TALK to me!) Wait, hold the phone, your feet don’t groan at you?? Hummm, I don’t know if you can be in my club if your feet don’t scream or groan at you.

We spend our whole lives stomping around on hard pavement, dirt roads, tile floors, and normally in cheap flat soles, and those super cute shoes JUST BECAUSE they are CUTE!! They are not comfortable, but they look good. Sold! Ring me up!! I don’t need no stinkin’ comfort! I need to look stylish THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

The result? Foot fatigue, heel pain, and that end-of-day waddle we all pretend isn’t happening. All the while thinking OH MY ACHY FEET!! (Not to be confused with that achy breaky heart!)

Billy Ray is such a baby here!! Automatically, my brain went to Dolly Parton. She will be so missed. Her and that laugh! I never saw her without mile-high heels. Did you hear her last request? To be buried in cotton, sequins, and sparkles were always so heavy; she wants to be comfortable in the afterlife. Rest in comfort and peace, Dolly. You WILL be missed.

Why Your Feet Are Pitching a Fit

Our feet are packed with 26 bones, 30 joints, and 100 ligaments meant to absorb impact, but flat floors and non-supportive footwear force them to do all the heavy lifting without backup. Over time, that strain travels straight up your body, causing everything from heel soreness to lower back aches.

Who would have thought that your feet and/or shoes would be the cause of your back pain!?!?!

  • Lack of Arch Support: Flat footbeds leave your arches unsupported, stretching the tissue on the bottom of your foot.
  • Hard Surfaces: Hardwood, concrete, and tile offer zero shock absorption.
  • Everyday Wear & Tear: Chasing kids or husbands, running errands, or standing all day quickly adds up.

The Easy Fix: Give Your Shoes an Upgrade

I am so much smarter now! I don’t have to toss out my favorite pair of shoes or trade my style for orthopedic shoes that look like concrete blocks. Adding targeted support directly into your daily shoes can instantly realign your stride and take the pressure off tired arches. Aren’t you ready to bring instant relief into your daily life?

3 Quick Habits for Happier Feet

  1. Roll It Out: Keep a small rolling massage ball or frozen water bottle under your desk and roll your arch over it for a quick, soothing stretch. Okay, y’all know I am NOT putting a frozen water or anything ELSE frozen on my feet. NOPE! I can handle the massage ball just fine. I am NOT a happy or pleasant woman to be around if my feet are cold.
  2. Ditch the Flat Slipper Trap: Avoid walking barefoot or wearing paper-thin slippers around the house on hard floors. I love walking barefoot all summer long. But if I can get rid of my lower back ache, then FINE! I guess.
  3. Mix Up Your Footwear: Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes multiple days in a row to give the cushioning time to bounce back. I did know this one. When I was working, I never wore the same shoes two days in a row. I mean HELLO!!! My shoe collection was EPIC!! Now? In Idaho? Not so much. However, I am accumulating a very nice collection of boots.

Say Goodbye to the Zombie Shuffle

At the end of the day, life is way too short to spend it waddling around in pain just because your favorite shoes aren’t doing their job. A little extra arch support can go a long way in keeping you comfortable, active, and out of lower-back misery. HOWEVER! If the Zombie Apocalypse is in our near future, maybe you should brush up on your Zombie 101 information!

heh heh I fell on my foot once wearing heels and that was it, it took years to get back to normal. My heels became closet decor I could not bring myself to let them go. Now only flats. I’m short so it meant a lot to me to be a few inches “taller.” Around the complex it is mostly flip flops. I have so many cute sandals etc. that I haven’t worn yet!!! It is tempting to get more when they are almost giveaway prices on sale, but I have to keep reminding myself when am i going to wear several pairs. I’m not going anywhere to wear them – oh oh, and summer is almost over. Ditto with winter shoes/boots, I have adorable ones, flat heel, but rarely wear. I still have a pair of over-the-knee boots with a heel, those haven’t been worn since the foot injury. I keep forgetting to let them to to someone who will use them…. LOL I keep trying to clean out, but it is way harder to do than would appear…..

I am still on the endless search for comfortable shoes. I am going to buy one of those rolling massage balls for my feet and very soon.

Oddly my feet often do better in plain old flip flips rather than any other fancy sandal.. Dont ask me why I feel a more natural foot position is key for me

My feet are currently killing me, lol. Ugh. I definitely need better shoes. The ones I usually wear are just so uncomfortable but it’s hard to find good ones I can wear because of my foot/leg issues.
