Oh my gosh my day has been blessed. I got to spend it with my beautiful 8 month old granddaughter and my husband. We just hung out at the house but she is so much fun! I am so glad to have this time with her!

Mum’s op. went ok and physically she’s doing really well but she seems to have had a stroke – she rang me at 10am & was full of the joys of Spring, so to speak so I headed up to Dublin. When I arrived she began to complain of feeling woozy & headachey … then didn’t know why she was in hosp. and it just got worse while I was there from 1pm till 4.30. I’ve worked with people with dementia, and memory loss and while she remembered that Dad had died and that she had had an operation to remove a cancer (a year ago), she was deteriorating before my eyes. She was being closely monitored and at 4.20 went for a CT scan of her brain so I headed home. I rang 3 hours later & apparently she was fast asleep but didn’t remember me being there. I feel a bit lost and could do with a hug right now!

Mum had a 5-hour op. this morning and followed by 4 hours in the recovery suite, then into intensive care. She’ll spend a couple of days there, then to a private room. Oh, the joys of having private health insurance! Anyway, fingers crossed!

I took Mum up to hospital today. She’s having surgery to have another tumour removed – cancer sucks! She’s 83 and doesn’t deserve all this worry and pain but she’s a trooper and doesn’t do negative so she’s going to give it her best shot 🙂

We found out today that a friend of Mum’s died over the weekend. She hadn’t been feeling right for ages but struggled on. On Friday she collapsed & was rushed to hospital and died late last night. She was a wonderful artist & we have a couple of her canvases. An only child, she had no family of her own and was widowed so the choir are going to give her a good send-off. Mum’s practicing on the piano as I type. RIP.

I was up at the crack of dawn today (too hot to sleep) so got lots of sorting through ‘stuff’ done. Mum & I are doing one room at a time and making a big effort to de-clutter. I got up early to try to get some more heavy cleaning done before it got too hot. As an added incentive, last night I made the most gorgeous mango, pineapple & coconut milk gelatos & I’ve been treating myself to one after every burst of cleaning. One hour of deep cleaning, one gelato!

Today I am happy to announce I’m once again enjoying a/c in our home. It had been out for 2 weeks and we had a new unit installed yesterday. Over $1400 later but nice and cool.

A bad night’s sleep – I overdid going up & down the step ladder yesterday so my knee’s achy – so I got up at 4am, did some ironing, washing, prepared the evening meal, fed & watered the animals & houseplants and myself, then went back to bed at 8am!

Well, a busy day of doing nothing much, lol. All I did was stay home, but there were things constantly popping up: crack of dawn text from my sister-in-law telling me Mom would need to go to the doctor today instead of next week (scheduling issues) & my brother would pick her up, pharmacy calling to see about delivering her prescription, Fedex delivering, nephews in & out, oxygen tank people delivering…you get the idea. None of these were planned, which is odd.

I’ve just got back after taking Mum up to Dublin to discuss her case with her oncologist. He’s very pleased with the effect the chemo & radiotherapy had on the cancerous areas and now wants to operate in a month. It’s quite positive news and good to know. Other than that, we’re both just tired and watching Wimbledon on the telly.

Whoever said Sunday is a day of rest hadn’t met me when I’m on a cleaning binge! My new bed is (hopefully) being delivered this week so I washed windows, skirting boards, light fittings, dusted anything and everything & vacuumed my room. Then I went outside & washed & waxed my car & cleaned all the leaves of my pot plants. Oh, and cooked the Sunday roast with all the trimmings! And made more frozen yoghurt & fruit ice lollies!

Well, that’s June over with for another year and I’m glad as Dad would have been 83 (!) and then Father’s Day of course. As it is, we now have Mum’s birthday to look forward to. She was born at 7 minutes past 7 on the 7th day of the 7th month! Then it’s my sister’s birthday, then my niece … I’m always broke during the summer!

Well today I feel lucky. Our a/c went out and luckily it only took a very inexpensive part to fix instead of replacing the unit. Whew
