2016 Mazda CX-5 Review #MazdaUSA

I just finished driving the 2016 Mazda CX-5; in a bright cherry red I might add. So, starting with the color WOW!! The color really does POP!! (Let’s not tell the Drive Shop guys that the red ones really DO go faster!) Seriously, how cool is that color!!!

Mazda CX-5 Red

Isn’t this a sleek looking crossover? The lines really ADD to the overall appearance of this car!

I’m going to start this review with one of my favorite features just because I’ve been talking about car safety lately. This car is smart. Smarter than I am! Why you ask?? Because the CX-5 is set up in a way to cut down on the distracted driving.  For one, you can’t use the navigation system unless the car is stopped! Talk about an awesome feature! I am guilty of wanting to add an address to the navigation as I drive. (YES! I know it’s bad. Yes! I know I shouldn’t…. but, at least I’m not chasing a Pokemon while I’m driving!)

More things that I consider less distracting while I drive are the window locks, I know it’s not technically a distraction but when you have kids in the backseat opening and closing windows don’t you sometimes wonder if they are throwing their shoes, socks or homework out the window?? I know I always look! ESPECIALLY if it’s a down and followed by an equally fast up with the window. Putting that lock on means they can’t play with the window, which is one less distraction for ME! Next is the instrument cluster, all together easy to see with just a glance. Then there is the lane departure setting. The car will beep at you if you are starting to drift over a line. I LOVE that feature! There are also icons in the side mirrors of cars that could be in your blind spot. Although the CX-5 is designed in such a way that I didn’t feel I had any blind spots. Another great feature is the warning of red light cameras ahead. Thank you Mazda! NOT that I would ever go through a little too yellow traffic light.

Another feature that I found to be very helpful is located in the center console. That large round button is more of a joystick. By clicking the music button you can toggle between radio stations and devices too. You can use it for navigation too. It’s extremely easy to learn and use! Also on the center console is your drive mode (I prefer the sport mode for more road feel!) Also on the center console is your break. Super easy to use!

Everything you need is conveniently located on the steering wheel, including cruise control, music and your phone. Another awesome feature is the adaptive cruise control that adjusts your speed so you keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead. See?? Smart CAR!!

The CX-5 uses SkyActiv Technology which means that everything works together, the body, chassis, engine and transmission! Everything works together for amazing performance and great gas mileage as well!

The CX-5 is comfortable to drive. From the driver’s side power adjustable seat. Excellent lumbar support, well padded seat for a very comfortable driving experience. The passenger side seat does not have power seats, but it is equally comfortable to sit in. The inside really is spacious! There is more room than you would think inside!

Heading to the back of the CX-5 not only does the back have lots of room but you can expand that room by the simple pull of a lever. The 3 levers are nestled inside one another, starting with the smallest will open the center for a great pass thru for ski’s or a trip to Home Depot. There are actually several ways to lay down the seats, from the backseat or the very back. The backseat even sits back up as quickly and easily.

The backseat will hold two car seats and a booster seat easily. Or 3 adults a little bit snuggly but it can be done. The center of the bench seat has not just the arm rest but also 2 cup holders which is perfect for a long car ride. Also a large angled cut out on the door for water bottles.

A few more things that I found to be very handy in the CX-5 are the keyless start. I LOVE a keyless entry and start! Put the key-fob in your purse or pocket and never dig for it again! The USB port and the SD card reader in the center console means I can add my music playlist to the shuffle. SEE? Smart CAR!! There are also plastic slides that come out of the sun visors for more glare protection. This is on both the driver and passenger visors. The rear view mirror has the homelink system so you can add your garage door to the mirror! One touch open and close for the sunroof. Great floor mats that resist dirt and stains. Which is important with a messy 5-year-old passenger! Extra storage in the center console, deep enough to keep my cd’s and a small tray for change. Nice roomy glove compartment. Also important is the spare tire not just a can of ‘fix it’ that can be found in a lot of newer cars.

Truly, if you are looking for a family car with lots of room and great features you need to check out the CX-5.

Miata

Disclosure I received a complimentary week driving the 2016 Mazda CX-5  from DriveShop , for the purpose of my review. (They aren’t letting me keep this one either I checked AGAIN!!) No other compensation was provided. The opinions are mine and 100% honest. I have not been influenced in any way.
