I read a lot of posts, magazine articles and such that talk about self care. As a caregiver of The Husband with MS, I understand just how important self-care really is. I won’t be any good for him if I’m broken.
I get stressed out and give myself a headache. My shoulders feel like bricks. As much as I would love to indulge in weekly massage or a nightly hot bubble bath complete with bathsalts, face mask, glass bottle of wine. It’s not always in the cards for me. OHHHHHMMMMMGEEEEE I just made a funny!!
This post is how I destress and what I consider MY self care that I can do anytime!
Solitaire! I am a million percent addicted to Solitaire. Unfortunately, I tend to over indulge in phone apps. (Squirrel!! In my mind I imagine adding one more app to my phone and all the little minions that keep everything running smoothly inside will march right out. Magic smoke will billow from all of the ports and I will be left with a paper weight). (Yes, I am embarrassed to admit I have way too many apps! I REALLY should go through and clean up some of the non essential ones. Someday. Not today. Its NOT in my self care routine).
The solitaire game I play isn’t a download!!
Ohhhh your ears perked up right there didn’t they!?!?
First, if you aren’t a solitaire game person there are other browser based games to play, so don’t let the
solitaire.org name fool you. When I think solitaire I see my Grandma Jones playing at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee (which by the way was SO strong I think it dissolved SPOONS!) and yes, that game is there. However! There are others too. My new favorite is called Eight Off. Okay, this one is giving my brain new wrinkles! (squirrel!!! According to an article on
NYSCF Why do our brains have wrinkles? The simple answer is to make them more efficient. Scientists think that as we evolved and our cortexes expanded, our brains created folds to optimize how much brain matter could fit into our skulls.Personally, I would love to have more brain wrinkles and way less face wrinkles but well, ya know…. if wishes came true. Like I was saying Eight Off is one that makes you THINK! SOOO MANY WRINKLES!
You can only move the number of cards as you have available spaces above the dealed deck. OHHHHHMMMMMGEEEEE my brain! If you get confused or stuck the instructions are available. (I probably should have read through those first but I’ve always been a push buttons until I get the desired results girl. (Yes it does drive The Husband bonkers! It’s ALWAYS “did you read the instructions?” Pffffttt noooooo. (Squirrel!)
Since I am hanging out with Granddaughter Alice in California for awhile I made the mistake of showing her some of the games on the Solitaire.org site. HUGE mistake! HUGE!! Now we are fighting over who plays next! For instance Medieval Castle Hidden numbers is HARD!! You lose time if you THINK you see a number but it turns out to be nothing. (Yes, I do see a LOT of things that aren’t there!)
How am I being hung out to dry by an ELEVEN YEAR OLD!! I think she cheats! I continually get this screen:
Bottom line is that self care IS important. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. Self care is what makes you relax. What helps you unwind.
My other favorite game is Spider Solitaire. 🕷 It’s challenging. There are different levels from “Yes, I can win every hand” to “WHY CAN’T I WIN THIS STUPID GAME?!?!” It’s a no brainer I play the easiest level. What can I say? I like to win!!
I’d love to know your self care routine. If it involves wine, chocolate and games can I come over!?!?
Okay gotta go it’s my turn to find the numbers in Medieval Castle. So far it’s 3 games to zip, zero, nadda. I don’t think Alice should be allowed to play anymore.

Self care to me is taking time for yourself and doing things to make you happy and not just everyone else. Thanks for this article.

I pray and meditate, watch video, read blogs and listen to music.

Reading fanfiction and cooking while listening to music or drama CDs are the best way to unwind for me nowadays. And then eating said food while watching YT videos.

I love being outside but I also listen to books, watch videos or play games on my phone.

My self care routine is sitting at my desk after a bath and looking at old photos of the family then cuddling up on the sofa with a cocktail and my book with music playing in the background… that for me is heaven…

My self care is a bubble bath then reading a good book on my sofa in front of the fire.

Sometimes I think I give in to my desire for self care too often, lol. I’m the lazy sort.

Great tips, self care is so important and I love treating myself to things I love and that also bring me peace and calm.

Singing in the shower, gardening, fresh air, you name it! Haven’t watched tv since March. I do love listening to plays, short stories etc. on the BBC Sounds website.

I am working on a little more self care. Still have friends that work so we are trying to get together for lunch at least once a month. Just to catch up and see what is happening in our worlds.

Maybe someday in the future they’ll figure out how to transfer facial wrinkles to the brain. That would make me an utter genius!

My game apps were killing off my phone battery too quick, lol, so I deleted them. I don’t want to have to buy a new battery this time of year when there are so many other expenses. But I did enjoy playing games.

It’s just me so I don’t really need the self care thought because I do self care all the time. I take naps might be 15 minutes might be several hours. I am on the computer off and on most days. I do make my self go out at least twice sometimes more a week. I found out during COVID that I didn’t have a problem being with me, myself and I. BUT I do wind down at the end of the day with a game or two off candy crush and cookie jam. I think ever body needs time to recharge. My niece was going to drop her daugher off for the day with me at 11 I told her drop her off early. Go buy a big cup of your favorite coffee, park down by the river and just watch the water. And she did………………..

Gloria, I think even though it’s just you it doesn’t hurt to a little something extra special for yourself. Ya know what I don’t mind my quiet time either! Especially when I can crack myself up so easily.

My self care includes some adult drinks once in a while, reading, taking baths, long drives, Christian music and talking to old friends.
