Let’s start right off saying I did NOT want to give this car back. I WANT IT! I NEED IT!! I WANT THIS CAR!!! YES! I know I’m shouting at you. I can’t help it! This was the cutest, sexiest, sleekest, most awesome car ever!! Zoom ZOOM!
So I may have gotten a tad possessive when it was time to give this beauty up…. just a little…

Okay, I’m sorta done whining for the moment, at least long enough to tell you about this FUN little 6 speed manual convertible!!

This is Mazda’s MX-5 it’s lighter, smaller and quicker than its predecessor. This car has adopted Mazda’s full suite of SKYACTIV Technology (the only application for a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicle) and KODO—Soul of Motion design • SKYACTIV Technology is not just a catchphrase; it is a total-effort philosophy to reduce weight and improve efficiency in the engine, chassis, and transmission. A byproduct of that is greater handling capabilities and chassis dynamics, providing the driver with a more connected, enjoyable experience. • All of this has been done for Jinba Ittai – The Oneness of Horse and Rider, elevating the driving experience in connecting the driver with the vehicle. With driver-centric ergonomics and a redesigned cockpit layout, an even greater number of drivers will be able to experience MX-5.

I love this car so much it’s hard to know where to start with this review! I guess I’ll begin with the outside. To call the color of this car red just doesn’t do the color justice, of course Mazda nailed it with the name Soul Red Metallic. The multi-dimensional, ceramic metallic paint is an eye catcher!

The profile of the MX-5 is sleek! I’ve never had so many people stop me to talk about a car before. It seemed like every single traffic light I stopped at someone had to ask how my car drove! (Yes, of course I led each and everyone of them to think it was my car! I’m not totally crazy!) My first response was always “This is SUCH a FUN car! This baby hugs the road!”

The lines. The lines of this car are sleek; I just can’t think of a better way to describe the way the car looks.

The interior is pretty darn spectacular! Starting with the driver seat (where I spent as much time as possible over the period of a week!)

When you are sitting in the driver seat the first thing you’ll notice is that the seat hugs you. I could easily do a long road trip in this car. You feel like you are sitting in a cockpit. Everything is designed to be at your fingertips. The first trip out in the MX-5 I thought that the speedometer was in the wrong place. However, further down the road I realized that the speedometer is in the ideal spot for the way I hold the steering wheel!

Controls on the steering wheel include radio, phone and cruise control.
Leather-trimmed heated seats with three settings and excellent lumbar support.
Safety. ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control w/ Traction Control
Dual front air bags and side-impact air bags, side impact door beams as well!
The MX-5 has the keyless entry which I adore.
The Mazda Connect infotainment system includes the 7.0” Full-color touch-screen display w/ voice command! HD radio that has all the systems I desire from Aha, Pandora and Stitcher. This smart little gem even reads TEXT messages to me!! Navigation system too!

Last but not least storage! You would not think that a little car could carry so much! The trunk is larger than you would think! Check it out!

Once I removed five-year-old Alice, look at all of the luggage I was able to pack for a weekend away!

Yes, even the large red suitcase!

There are smaller storage compartments inside behind each seat and between the seats as well.

Oh I almost forgot! Gas milage! The MX-5 gets 27 city / 36 highway. Personally I got 29.2 MPG in stop and go Southern California traffic. I was thoroughly pleased.

THEY MADE ME GIVE IT BACK!!  I had a BLAST driving this car! It’s a joy to look at as well as drive!! I love this car!
