Hello Peanuts!! Fall is officially here!! Idaho has gotten a little on the chilly side. Today’s high was all of 50°!!
September seems to have gone very fast! Kitchen still not done. HOWEVER!! The flooring is done!! It’s so nice!! Between all the stains and the smells and the dust and dirt having a super soft carpet is aaaaaaaahhhhhhhmazing!! So, what’s the first thing you do when you get new carpeting? You get an 8 week old PUPPY!??!? Yup, only me……
Bernie is came home the 30th of September at around 5pm. I’m hoping this sleeping puppy sleeps all night long!! Fingers crossed.
Bernie is a Bernese Mountain Dog. She’s a big girl. She’s gonna be A VERY BIG girl!! She is so very sweet!!

This morning my latest eBay purchase arrived: black, medium heel, over-the-knee suede boots. What Dad would have called kinky boots! They’re amazingly comfortable and cost less than a decent bottle of Scotch. I’ve just got to scuff the soles a bit so I don’t slip and I’m ready to rock! We’re just back from voting for the next Uachtaráin na hEireann (President of Ireland) and a Referendum on whether or not to remove ‘blasphemy’ as a criminal offence from the Irish Constitution, then we popped in to visit Dad’s grave on the way home. Today, we did standing with a walker in physical therapy. It honestly blows my mind that I can stand and hold my own weight even if it is just for a minute at a time, lol. We stand, we rest, we stand…etc. It gets a little easier each time.

On Monday, in physical therapy, we started trying to push up from the chair and stand with the walker instead of the standing frame. It’s going well. Barry, the physical therapist still helps with the part where I push up, but once I’m up, I can support myself for about a minute. Considering that when I got here three months ago, I could barely move in bed, I’m pleased, lol.

I’ve got to go to Dublin later on so I’m whizzing round the house ‘like a white tornado’ (anyone of an age to remember that ad?) trying to get as much done as I can as it’ll be dark when I get back. At least the weather is lovely for driving.

Today, my physical therapist decided I’ve progressed enough to start trying to push up out of the chair instead of grasping something and pulling up. Makes sense. Today, I got to switch to the standing lift instead of the other lift, which literally picks you up in a ‘sling pad’ and plops you into a wheelchair. The standing lift lets you hold onto it, it helps you stand then they turn the lift and you sit down. Hey, that’s progress, lol.

I’ve made a new friend. He/she is a spider that lives in a little hole in the window frame & comes out to eat any houseflies that I manage to whack! He/she drags the remains into the hole and a couple of days later the corpse is dragged back outside. I could watch this little creature for hours!

… and after 2 days of Storm Callum the sun is almost blinding so beds have been stripped & hopefully I’ll get the lot washed & dried. A bit of tidying up of small branches was all the damage done, thank heavens. I’m prepping roast pork with all the trimmings for later and that ends your daily news from this side of the Atlantic!

Storm Callum put paid to the internet last night & it’s only just come back. The winds are finally dying down so I’m popping out for the weekend papers (have to get 2 of the same so we don’t fight over the crosswords!) then home for Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC & pizza! So, today I stood 20 minutes in the standing frame (you’re surrounded on every side in case you fall.) New record for me. My physical therapist says next week I can start using the ‘supine lift’ to get from bed to wheelchair. (Right now they use a sling underneath me, which they attach to a big lift. It lifts me in the air and they maneuver me into the chair.) The supine lift has a strap they put under your arms to be sure you don’t fall, then you stand, they turn it and you sit in the chair.

Well what a day yesterday..Snake downstairs on the patio…great neighbors I can truly say….so I spent the morning spraying with malathion.. I had sprayed around the aviary, pond and cistern just the other week but not the downstairs patio….so scrubbed with disinfectant then removed all my plant stuff from the shelves got out my trusty sprayer and went to work….there is no real deterrent for snakes other than no clutter blah blah blah but malathion and black tar detergent drives them away….let us see what today brings! LOL

My day was going fairly decently. We worked outside all day although it was cold. Hubby and I came in and each took a nap on th couch and loveseat. I was on the loveseat. We have had a roof leak and he had patched it. While we were asleep a HUGE chunk of plaster fell from the ceiling above and I got hit on the head. Luckily it was one of the smaller pieces.

So, I’ve been standing longer in what they call a standing frame. Basically, it has something up front in case you need to lean on it and a strap behind you in case you need to lean on that. You try to stand on your own as much as possible. Either way, your putting weight on your feet and legs and strengthening them. I did 13 minutes the first attempt today. New record for me, lol. What gets me is that it’s not my legs that give out, it’s queasiness from my gut issues. I feel like if I could get better nutrition my strength would be much better.

At last! I got a phone call first thing to say that Mum’s blood test HAD been done first time round but that the results weren’t forwarded to the Dr. and the results are perfect. I don’t care whose fault it was, human error happens, but at least we can stop worrying now.

Woke up with a swelled and aching left hand. Just the latest bit of weirdness, lol. Tomorrow I have an appt. with the tummy dr. It’s to discuss the results from the last test (I already know it didn’t show them anything.) and schedule the test they really wanted to do to begin with, but insurance said the other had to be done first. Think of how much money could be saved if they let doctors decide what needs to be done instead of insurance idiots.

I’m getting aggravated at the kitchen staff here. Because of my stomach issues, I’ve repeatedly asked for bland type foods, like cream of chicken soup, etc. So what did they send today? Chili. Right, no thanks. I don’t want to spend the whole evening in pain. So, today, I’ve eaten half a peanut butter sandwich. Fortunately, I have a tiny fridge with cheese and yogurt in it, so I’ll just eat that later.

I’m in one of my moods, folks. The blood results showed that Mum doesn’t have ovarian cancer – hardly surprising when she doesn’t have ovaries! They did the wrong bloody test again. I’m fuming! I shall have to go and take it out on the weeds, or jump on some cardboard boxes for recycling. They may have enough of the original sample to do the colon/rectal cancer test so here’s hoping (again).
