If you want to keep your home in good condition, it’s important to consider the danger posed by different weather conditions. The weather can affect your home in a lot of different ways and if you want to avoid any serious maintenance issues, it’s vital that you take steps to protect from the wind, rain, and even the sun.

Maintaining your gutters is one of the most important home maintenance jobs because they drain water away from the home. If the gutters are not doing their job correctly, water will pool up around the roof and eventually start to seep into the walls. This can cause serious damp problems throughout the house and even damage the foundations if you aren’t careful. If you haven’t paid much attention to your gutters in the past, make sure to follow these important maintenance tips or search for Gutter Services Milwaukee or services in your area, and enlist a reputable company to do the work for you.

Install Gutter Guards

Leaves are a gutter’s worst enemy and if you don’t keep on top of them, they will clog the gutter and stop it from draining properly. The good news is, you can prevent that from happening if you install gutter guards on all of the gutters. These simple plastic inserts will stop leaves from getting into the gutter while still allowing the water to drain through, so you are far less likely to have an issue with damp. You do still need to clean the leaves out from time to time but you don’t need to do it anywhere near as often if you have gutter guards installed.

Clean Regularly

Even if you have gutter guards installed, it is still important to clean your gutters from time to time, especially if there are a lot of trees close to the house. Leaves and other debris will get caught in the gutters and block them up, so you need to get up there from time to time and clear it all out. It’s not the best job in the world, but it’s an important one, so don’t put it off.

Secure Gutters

After a particularly windy spell, there is a chance that sections of the gutter will come loose from the wall. When this happens, the water doesn’t run down to the ground as it should, it spills out and runs down the walls of the house. If you don’t repair the gutters and secure them to the wall, this water will eventually soak through the walls and lead to damp problems.

Patch Any Leaks

Even if all sections of the gutter are secured to the wall, there may still be leaks that can cause you some serious problems. You need to check that water is draining all the way to the bottom of the gutter properly and check each section to make sure that there are no leaks. If you do find any, make sure that the joints are all secure and patch any holes. If there is extensive damage to a section of the gutter, it’s best to just take it out and replace it.

It is so important that you stay on top of gutter maintenance and if you follow these steps, you can avoid any serious problems in the future.

These are all so very good suggestions. Between fall leaves and hurricanes, I’ve heard of all these things happening, in fact, at the last board meeting, someone was saying the gutters on a building needs to be fixed. It has caused flooding in the basement, etc!

I recall once looking up at our roof when I was in my teens and noticing a small bush growing in the gutter, lol. I think gutter guards are genius!! Cleaning gutters is not fun.
