Another item from my Novica Wishlist just arrived!! Check out my new Silk Batik Shawl. I love wearing a scarf or shawl. I love choosing a wrap to match my outfit or my mood of the day. This scarf has so many beautiful soft colors with the main color being my absolute favorite shade of green. I call it Army Green, it’s just the perfect shade! Add to that a maroon and a beautiful turquoise blue with off white and you have the prettiest shawl!!

My Silk batik shawl, ‘Lavish Java’ is not just the mix of perfect colors but so silky soft that you can’t help but run through your fingers!! This scarf feels so good against my skin. The shawl is 76″ long and 7″ wide. This shawl could easily be dressed up or worn casual. This will be the PERFECT accent piece to my New Years Dress or worn as a scarf with jeans and a t-shirt.

My scarf was created by Yuni Kristina a very talented artist that puts together beautiful colors and classic Javanese batik patterns for an absolutely stunning silk shawl. The scarf design includes the parang, or dagger, once exclusive to the courts of Surakarta and Jogyakarta. Also, they include the kawung, an eight-pointed rosette set within a square, rhombus or circle, formerly reserved for the sultan’s use.

I love that Novica includes information about each artist they work with. So here is a little more about Yuni Kristina:
I learned the art of batik when I was very young, since my mother is a batik artist in Java. She has been making batik at home for 23 years, while waiting each day for my father – a fisherman – to come home from the sea. As you can imagine, batik is a part of my life. I started experimenting with the technique when I was 13 years old, with mori textiles. Now I’ve learned to create different motifs and to work with other materials, such as silk. My mother still helps me a lot. My mother is my inspiration. She and I still design together, especially the floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. My husband Rieckey also helps me a lot because he knows what people like abroad, and then I can focus on creating. I would like the batik of Bali to become well known around the world, since its beauty is outstanding….

My 100% silk shawl can be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Do NOT dry clean.

The silk shawl arrives in a beautiful cloth bag, perfect for storing my shawl when I’m not wearing it. These guys thought of everything!

WHINES

This Silk batik shawl in ‘Lavish Java’ has been on my wish list for so long! How can I possibly whine?! The colors are amazing. The silky soft shawl is a joy to wear and touch. I LOVE this shawl! Once again, I am totally impressed with Novia!

Novica has such great (and unique) stuff! I love that they tell you about who made the item, too. I really covet some of the African and Asian carved figures and jewelry!
