How To Create More Space in a Small Kitchen
Some living spaces don’t offer a full-sized kitchen, and that can make it tricky to move around and get things done. When every inch counts, you should learn a few helpful tricks for making it feel like you have more space than you do. Knowing how to create more space in a small kitchen can help you leverage unused areas and make smart design choices to keep your cooking area a more accessible zone.
Use Vertical Space
Small kitchens usually have very limited counter space, which limits how many cabinets and drawers you have access to. Fortunately, you can use the wall and take advantage of vertical space to save room.
Wall hooks are great options for storing mugs and even small pots and pans. Consider installing a magnetic board to hold onto knives, spatulas, and other bulky cooking tools. You can also install floating shelves in your kitchen to place glasses, bowls, and plates to cut down on cabinet space. Using height is an effective way to prevent clutter from spilling into your workspace.
Multi-Functional Furniture and Smart Solutions
One of the best ways to create more space in a small kitchen is by using multi-functional furniture. Foldable tables and countertops or even rolling carts can give you extra prep or dining space without taking up too much room. You can get stackable containers for your pantry or cabinets to neatly organize these spaces so items take up less space.
Keep It Clean and Clutter-Free
While it may seem obvious, regularly moving clutter is a great way to make your kitchen feel like it has more space in it. There are plenty of ways to keep your kitchen clean, like regularly tidying up the countertops and storing small appliances elsewhere when you’re not using them.
Excess clutter like dirty dishes or crumbs on the counter always makes it feel like you have less space than you do. Take the time to wipe down surfaces and put things away to give your kitchen a more open and organized feel.
By implementing these creative solutions and organizational tips, even the smallest kitchens can become highly functional and efficient spaces. With a bit of planning and the right tools, you can transform your compact kitchen into a place that’s both practical and enjoyable to use.

Great suggestions! I definitely would like to install some wall hooks to hang up pots, pans, utensils, and towels. I also would be open to installing floating shelves to hold bottles of seasonings.

LOTS of good information here.
magnetic board to hold onto knives, GOT THIS AND LOVE LOVE IT! I have one little drawer for silverware.
Before I moved in to my apartment (11 years this week) I bought a bar cart on wheels. Has 2 drawers, lots of storage space below. And I can move out of the room if I need the space. Or I can turn it sideways to serve off of. Or just like a table 4 can sit around on counter stools.

These are great ideas for a small kitchen. Keeping it clutter free is important but it sure is hard sometimes.
